Builth Wells put themselves in the driving seat in the race for the GB Liners Marches League first division title with an 88-run win at previous leaders, Goodrich.
The unbeaten Bulls racked up 265 for 8 in their 45 overs before bowling Goodrich out for 177 to go top of the table. There were half centuries for Sujeewa Senarathne (55) and Tumelo Yeki (53) with Lyndon Jones (42) and Tim Richards (34) also in the runs. Goodrich did not help themselves by bowling 40 wides in a total of 47 extras as Builth scored at almost six runs an over.
Such has been Builth’s bowling this season that they would have fancied their chances at the halfway stage and Goodrich lost wickets at regular intervals. Opener, Sam Griffiths (45) and Harry Porter (30) got runs on the board but when Griffiths was lbw to Martin Hurst, the home side were 99 for 4. Hurst bowled a miserly spell of 2-25 in eight overs and Lyndon Jones, playing his first game of the season, also gave little away taking 3-24 in nine overs. Dylan McPhee (2-31), Paul Greenway (1-35) and Harri Phillips (1-20) were the other wicket takers before Senarathne completed the win with the last wicket with his first ball.
Builth 2nds made it back-to-back wins with former captain, Paul Rowe hitting a century in a seven-wicket victory over Wormelow 2nds. Builth put the visitors in to bat and they found it hard to score against opening bowlers, Eurig Towns (0-25) and Dai Davies (2-21). Owen Jones (58) and Isaac Evans (65) moved the score along but Arthur Davies (2-30) and Ian Morgan (2-9) plus three run outs saw them all out for 179.
Rowe (100) rolled back the years and led Builth’s response aided by Steffan Towns (38) and Ian Morgan (22) before Dai Davies and captain, Jon Curzon saw them home with more than nine overs to spare.
