Hay clinched the GB Liners Marches League second division title with a convincing nine-wicket win against Builth Wells 2nds at the weekend, writes Paul Worts.

Hay put Builth in to bat and bowled them out for 89 with captain, Jonny Curzon (25) topscoring for The Bulls. Huw Griffiths (2-11), Mark Burgess (2-34) and Gabriel Moore (2-11), playing against his former side, took two wickets each before Gus Price (4-8) demolished the Builth lower order.

In reply, Hay lost Tim Masters (7) but Rhydian Evans-Bevan (44 not out) and Daniel Bowen (33 not out) saw Hay to victory in the 26th over.

Elsewhere in Division Two, Presteigne ended their season on a high, winning by 112 runs at Wormelow 2nds. Will Bartholomew (59) and promising youngster, Joey Jones gave Presteigne a good start. Mark Ammonds (81) then produced his best innings of the term and Jockey Wilson (31) took them to 234 for 7.

Wormelow were then bowled out for 122 with Wilson (3-16) leading the way while Arthur Chilman (2-22) and Ammonds (2-14) also took wickets.

Builth Wells, who had won the first division title the previous week, saw their planned celebrations somewhat dampened when Dales conceded their match on Saturday. However a hastily arranged game against the local Lamb Hotel Baa Baas ensured the day did not go flat as they partied and said farewell to popular overseas star, Lindelihle Yeki.

Meanwhile Builth captain, Dylan McPhee steered Wales Over 40s to a thrilling two-wicket victory over England Seniors last Tuesday. Chasing England’s 308 for 4 from 45 overs, McPhee scored 28 not out from just eleven deliveries, hitting two fours and two sixes, as Wales got home with a ball to spare.
