Luctonian 3rds 87 all out Talybont 90 - 9
TALYBONT recorded their eighth consecutive victory with a nail biting one wicket win over a much strengthened Luctonians 3rds side due to their 2nds being without a game.
Captain Dan Bowen won the toss and asked the visitors to bat. This was to prove a fine decision as his opening bowlers, in form pair Huw Griffiths (10 overs 5 maidens 3 for 21) and Lewis Deacon who picked up (10 overs 2 maidens 3 for 21) soon had Lucs in all kinds of trouble. Griffiths getting Tom Williams caught by Lewis Mallon for four before bowling Simpson for four and Davies caught by Tommy Kenchington for 10.
Deacon was in fine form trapping Will Maund LBW for eight before bowling Carletti for 10 and his third wicket coming courtesy of a spectacular gully catch at full stretch by Mick Mcalister to leave Lucs rocking at 43 for 6 off 20.
First change bowler Guy Williams then entered the attack in devastating style as he bowled Thomas for two with his first ball before bowling Webdale for five to grab two wickets in his first over.
At 44 for 8, Bont seemed well on top before Kelly with a quick-fire 31 and Sedgefield nine added 41 before williams had kelly caught by a fine Craig Samuel catch and then wrapping up the innings with a catch by Bowen to end his superb spell of 5 overs 4 for 11 and Lucs dismissed for 87.
A tremendous bowling and fielding performance by Bont who held all their catches. The Bont reply then got off to the worst possible start with Bowen (0), Mcalister (1) and Williams (0) all dismissed with the score on just seven and Lucs on top.
Mallon and Griffiths then set about getting Bont back into the game with a stand of 44 until Griffiths was caught for 20. At 51 for 4 Bont seemed to be on track before the game took another dramatic twist with wickets falling on a regular basis with Colin Griffiths (2), Kenchington (5) Richard Davies (3) and Carl Lewis 11 all dismissed but all playing their part with what turned out to be vital contributions.
Mallon had stood firm until he was bowled for 11 and at 79 for 9 a remarkable finish took place as samuel blocked out crucially to leave number 11 deacon amazingly strike two boundaries through the covers to spark wild celebrations as Bont pulled off a stunning victory by one wicket in a game which took many twists and turns. 20 points for the leaders who next week travel to Brockhampton 4ths as they look to remain at the top of the table.
