TALYBONT ended the season with a three wicket win over Clytha Arms in a game played at the picturesque setting of Llanarth CC.
Clytha opted to bat first and suffered two early losses courtesy of a superb piece of fielding by captain Tommy Kenchington who produced a direct hit to run out the Clytha opener Mark Jones for 1 and then Huw Griffiths picked up an LBW in his spell of 6 overs 1 for 7.
Colin Griffiths (3 overs 3 for 14) then came into the attack and picked up a wicket with his first ball with a catch by Luke Bowen.
Jamie Butler (3 overs 1 for 18) and Craig Robinson (5 overs 2 for 19) also picked up wickets for Bont as Clytha struggled to 80 for 8 before Peter Wilson with a hard hit 46 not out and Mark Thomas 21 staged a fightback before Kenchington (2 overs 1 for 12) got the ninth wicket with a catch by Butler.
Thanks to Wilson’s efforts Clytha reached 141 for 9 off their 35 overs. In reply Bont had a disastrous start as Geraint James was run out for 0 without facing a ball. His fellow opener Luke Bowen and Richard James moved the score onto 21 before Bowen was caught for 11.
Bont then suffered a middle order collapse with James (19), Robinson (12) and Colin Olivant (1) all fell to leave Bont at 50 for 5 and the game finally balanced.
Lewis Deacon (7) was next out before Bont rallied with a 41 partnership between Huw Griffiths and Colin Griffiths got them back in the game before Huw was caught for 37 and Bont 115 for 7 off 29 overs.
With a tight finish in prospect it was Bont captain Kenchington who struck a quick-fire 20 not as himself and Griffiths 17 not out saw Bont reach their target in the 33rd over with Kenchington striking a boundary to seal the victory for Bont.
