Talybont 317-6 winning draw with Canon Frome 2nds 104-9.
TALYBONT moved into second place in Marches League Division 3 with a convincing 213-run winning draw against bottom of the table Canon Frome 2nds.
After captain Huw Griffiths won the toss, Bont made a disastrous start with Dan Bowen bowled for 0 off the second ball of the match and this was quickly followed by the departure of Luke Bowen caught for 12 and Bont in a spot of bother at 16 for 2. Craig Robinson then joined Colin Griffiths with the pair adding 40 before Griffiths was bowled for 11.
Robinson was making his first appearance of the season and he took full advantage as he and Martin Hurst added 142 with Hurst happy to play the anchor role to the powerful Robinson who was striking boundaries to all parts with brutal force before he was caught with his incredible innings of 141 coming off just 63 balls including 14 sixes and eight boundaries an innings which also saw him fall agonisingly short of striking six sixes in one over with the final ball being a single.
Hurst was then caught for 49 and Bont well placed at 227-4 off 33 overs. Tommy Kenchington fell quickly for four before Richard James and Huw Griffiths combined to add 74 off the last six overs with James ending 23 not out and Griffiths 52 not out as he blasted 32 off the last over, including five sixes to catapult Bont to a massive 317-6 off their 45 overs.
Canon Frome got off to a terrible start and were 7-3 after eight overs courtesy of two run-outs by Luke Bowen and Richard James and a wicket for Griffiths as he and Hurst (8 overs 1-9) who also picked up a wicket left Canon 24 for 4 after 16 overs.
Guy Williams then came into the attack and he picked up two wickets in his spell of two for 26 off six overs.
Canon then dug in as they fought for bonus points with captain Griffiths (12 overs 2-19) using 10 different bowlers to try and break through with Robinson (1-0 off three overs) the other wicket taker and despite all of Bont’s efforts they couldn’t find the final breakthrough with Canon ending on a gritty 104-9 and Bont earning 24 points.
Next Saturday sees Bont travel to Burghil/Weobley 3rds.
