Talybont 249-3 Herefordians 121 all out .

TALYBONT continued their impressive form at the top of the league with a 128 run victory over fellow promotion rivals Herefordians on a drizzly damp day in Talybont.

Asked to bat first, the leaders made a steady start before captain Dan Bowen was first to go bowled by Jason Fletcher for 20 with Bont 36 for 1.

Bowen’s fellow opener Craig Robinson and Martin Hurst then added 58 until Hurst was caught for 17. Robinson was patient against some tight bowling bringing up his 50 in the 28th over despite him losing another partner in Richard James who was bowled for three.

After 30 overs the game was finally poised with Bont 103 for 3 and little sign of the barrage of boundaries that was to follow as Robinson and Huw Griffiths added a truly astonishing partnership of 145 in just 10 overs.

They were flaying the ball to all parts with Griffiths starting patiently allowing Robinson the strike as he upped the tempo to race to a superb 134 not out which included 10 boundaries and 11 maximums.

Griffiths ending on 53 not out as he struck two boundaries and five maximums as the pair remarkably helped Bont reach 249-3 a total that seemed impossible with 10 overs left. Bont then took the momentum of their innings onto the field as the man in form with the ball Lewis Deacon (10 overs 2 for 24) clean bowled Aleem Sahal for seven and Keith Fortey for 0.

Griffiths (10 overs 1 for 28) also picked up the wicket of Adrian Thomas with a fine slip catch off Tommy Kenchington for a stubborn 23. After 20 overs the visitors had reached 54 for 3 and Bont well on top.

Will Stephens (30) and Christian Ferriera(32) briefly threatened to delay proceedings before Bont debutant Vic Philips dismissed the pair with Stephens caught behind by Bowen and Ferriera clean bowled.

With Philips’ pace causing problems at one end he found the perfect partner in spinner Carl Lewis as the duo ran through the lower order. Philips picked up 4 for 42 and Lewis 3 for 24 aided by good catches by Robinson and Deacon who’s catch saw Bont

dismiss the visitors for 121 and picking up the full 25 points.

Credit to both sides in a game played in great spirit despite the damp conditions. This week sees Bont make the trip to face Bartestree and Lugwardine 4ths.
