IN 2015 Brecon Cricket Club had the highest number of junior players that it has ever had, with over 60 young cricketers from the age of seven up to 16 training and playing for the club.
With the junior section so strong, in 2014 the club started two volunteer schemes with the emphasis of getting people initially to help out with junior coaching. One scheme is an England and Wales Cricket Board initiative called vcricket, which logs the hours that a volunteer earns and rewards them with certificates and england clothing at 25, 50, and 100 hours.
The other scheme is called Millennium Volunteers MVSport50, which also logs volunteers hours and rewards them at 50 hours. Both schemes are for 14-25 year olds.
During 2015 Brecon CC had eight teenage volunteers all helping as coach assistants in the junior section. Without their help the club would have struggled to maintain its junior setup.
Terry Dickinson, a member of Brecon Cricket Club said: "Volunteering is a great thing to have on any CV, and colleges and universities are now taking this on board when doing their student intakes. The benefits of volunteering include learning new skills, gaining confidence, team work, and meeting new people, to name a few.
"Brecon CC would like to thank all of their young volunteers and look forward to them adding to their hours in 2015. Of the eight volunteers, five have now gained their 25 hour certificate and clothing, with two girls well in excess of 50 hours and close to achieving the 100 hour reward."
