There are two cracking local derbies in store on Boxing Day for local supporters looking for some festive cheer.
Builth Wells take on arch rivals, Llandrindod Wells in the Ardal League North East with both sides currently very much on form. Meanwhile Knighton Town host neighbours, Presteigne St Andrews in the MMP Central Wales League (South).
Builth and Llandrindod meet for the first time this season with both looking to take the Christmas spoils.
Builth, who are unbeaten at home in the league, will be keen to play as their last league game was way back in October when they drew with Llansantffraid. The Bulls are in for a busy second half of the season having played just eight league games while their involvement in both The FAW Amateur Trophy and Ardal Northern League Cup will rule out at least two more Saturdays. Builth have won five successive away games in cup competitions.
Apart from Adam Farmer, who is away, Builth should be at full strength with Danny Hall set to line up against his former club and his brother, Liam for the first time since a summer switch from The Broadway.
Llandrindod, who visit Kerry in a Central Wales Cup Quarter-Fnal tie on Saturday, welcome back Samed De Groot and Tom Durant. Bob Kear and Jack Evans remain on the injured list with Will Cleaton also unlikely to figure while Kieran McCarley, who is suspended for the Kerry game, is an injury worry for Boxing Day. Llandrindod are unbeaten in their last six in the league and have conceded just one goal in their last five games.
The East Radnor derby between Knighton and Presteigne is always well supported and Bryn-y-Castell should again attract a bumper crowd as Presteigne make the short journey over the hill. Current form make Harry Stokes’ Knighton firm favourites but local derbies do have the habit of throwing up the unusual and Presteigne’s Mark Weiland, currently doubling up as chairman and manager, will be hoping his side can cause an upset.
