Brecon Corries hit all the right notes on Saturday afternoon, with the town's annual jazz festival being a backdrop to proceedings, as they defeated Caldicot Town 4-1 at the Rich Field.
The results moved them into second position in the Floodlighting and Electrical Services Ardal South East table.
The hosts opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Craig Evans was played through on goal by Joel Evans before sliding the ball past by Matthew Sandiford into the far corner of the net.
The lead was soon doubled in the 14th minute when Joel Evans looped a header over Sandiford following a long ball played forward into the Caldicot Town penalty area by Corey Evans.
The Monmouthshire outfit halved the deficit six minutes later courtesy of Sam Swann's penalty after Corries custodian Steve Price brought down an opponent who broke free on goal and was about to take the ball past the goalkeeper.
Joel Evans headed over the target from a 43rd minute cross delivered from out on the left flank before Caldicot Town should have levelled the scores 60 seconds later but Ben Smith put his effort the wrong side of the crossbar after having rounded Price.
Brecon Corries had the last clear opportunity of the opening 45 minutes but Craig Evans' low shot went narrowly wide of the target as his team headed to the changing rooms with a narrow lead.
Brecon Corries player/manager Damien Daniels would have been pleased by the way that his charges had bounced back following a surprise reverse at lower-graded Nantyglo the previous weekend in the FAW Amateur Trophy before going on to record a midweek league victory at Tredegar Town. But the former Newtown midfielder would have been fully aware that Caldicot Town were very much in the proceedings as they trailed by just a single goal.
Brecon Corries did not appear to be a team content with sitting on their advantage as Corey Evans drove into the Swans' penalty area in the opening minute before seeing his shot partially parried by Sandiford and cleared off the goal line to safety.
Corries skipper Dale Evans' header turned over the crossbar by Sandiford from a 55th minute corner before the Rich Field club regained their two-goal buffer two minutes later when summer signing Jack Biggs hooked the ball over the goal line whilst on the ground.
The scoring was completed within two minutes of the restart when the ball was played through to Craig Evans to fire past Sandiford and virtually secure all three points as Caldicot Town rarely threatened Steve Price's goal after the interval.
