Builth Wells lost out in a 12-goal bonanza with two red cards while Brecon Corries got back on track with a 2-1 comeback win.

ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

BUILTH WELLS 4 - KERRY 8

If goals were what you wanted to see, The Lant Field was the place to be on Saturday as Builth Wells and Kerry were involved in a goal bonanza in the Ardal League North East. But unfortunately for Bulls’ supporters, visiting Kerry scored eight of those 12 goals with Builth’s misery completed by red cards for Cormac O’Byrne and Josh Joyce.

Builth were without the suspended Ryan Powell, Lee James, Danny Ives and Danny Hall and with keeper, Kham Steventon and Joe Wozencraft still sidelinedand and Alex Hicks unavailable, their squad was stretched while Kerry themselves were also without a number of key players.

Builth took the lead when Bradley Rollinson put topscorer, Tommy Rowlands through down the right and he went past a defender and slotted home. Ben Hendleman equalised almost immediately from the edge of the box when Builth failed to clear a free-kick and Luke Mumford then put Kerry ahead beating Jordan Jarvis from 25 yards. The Bulls levelled with Jamie Evans heading in a Lyndon Jones cross but Kerry regained the lead as Neil Mitchell was afforded too much space on the left and crossed for Mumford to slip the ball in. But Builth were again back on terms three minutes before half-time with Aeron Powell the goalscorer after a one-two between Rowlands and Connor Bird.

Builth felt they could go on and win the game in the second half but Kerry went ahead once more with winger, Craig Clayton racing in from the right to net their fourth. Two goals in as many minutes left Builth with a mountain to climb with Ethan Holloway snapping up the rebound after Jarvis denied Mitchell and Hendleman then grabbed his second from distance.

And it got worse for The Bulls as Cormac O’Byrne was sent off for bringing down Holloway when he was through on goal and Mumford completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot.

Connor Bird pulled one back for Builth with a super finish but Kerry had the last word as Josh Joyce picked up his second yellow for pulling back substitute, Huw Mainwairing and Khyam Wyton completed the scoring with the game’s second penalty as The Bulls fell to only their second home defeat in the league since Boxing Day.

Builth start a run of three away games at Rhos Aelwyd on Saturday and welcome back keeper, Kham Steventon and Alex Hicks while Danny Ives and Ryan Powell return from one-match bans. But they will be without the suspended Danny Hall, Lee James, Cormac O’Byrne, Josh Joyce and Tommy Rowlands who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Kerry.

ARDAL LEAGUE SOUTH EAST

Two second half goals from Craig Evans saw Brecon Corries get their Ardal League South East campaign back on track as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Abercarn United. After away defeats at Risca United and Canton had compromised The Chisels’ excellent start to the season, it was just what the doctor ordered and manager, Damien Daniels praised his side for a patient and disciplined performance.

Corries, who had Luke Roughley returning from his one-match ban, conceded after just four minutes, needlessly giving away a corner from which Corey Mitchell put Abercarn ahead. But the visitors controlled the game from there and captain, Dale Evans had a goal disallowed and also brought out a superb save from keeper, Travis Madden from a free-kick.

Corries continued to look the better side in the second half and the introduction of Paul Keddle and Jordan Baker from the bench gave them more energy.

Craig Evans levelled after brother, Joel squared the ball to him and the Brecon topscorer went on to get the winner when he knocked in a cross from Baker. Dale Evans hit the post with a penalty late on after Joel Evans was brought down and Craig Evans was denied his hat-trick by Madden as Corries finished strongly.

Corries, who have only played two of their nine league games at home, have no game this weekend but will return to league action a week on Friday night away at Goytre AFC (Gwent).

ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

It was a disappointing week for our three teams in the Ardal League North East. As well as Builth Wells suffering a high scoring 8-4 defeat at home against Kerry, there were defeats on the road for Llandrindod Wells and Radnor Valley.

Llandrindod travelled to North Wales to take on Rhos Aelwyd where two goals from Scott Reeves earned the home side a 2-0 victory which sees them leapfrog the Spa men in the league table.

But Llandrindod, as in most games this season, were very much in it and edged possession in the first half with Liam Hall showing up well in midfield. They fell behind on 27 minutes when Reeves got on the end of a long clearance from keeper, Daniel Roberts.

Llandrindod, who were without keeper, James Barker and Kieran McCarley, who had been ever-present before Saturday, had chances after the break with substitute, Tom Durant denied by Roberts who then saved a Shaun Nicholls volley. The best chance fell to Ashley Jones who shot wide after Durant’s initial effort was parried and Llandrindod’s failure to score came back to haunt them as Rhos snatched a second goal on the 90 minute mark. As Llandrindod pressed for the equaliser, they were caught out by another long ball from the keeper, conceding a penalty, which Reeves duly put away.

Radnor Valley had fallen to a 4-0 defeat at an in-form young Llanfair United last Tuesday night. In a game played at Newtown’s Latham Park, Llanfair had led 2-0 at half-time thanks to two goals from influential player-manager, Karl Seliaerts, the second from the penalty spot. Radnor, who themselves had a couple of strong penalty shouts turned away in the second half, had former Rhayader Town midfielder, Jack Clarke sent off for the second time this season after picking up a second yellow card on 80 minutes and Llanfair cashed in with late goals from Jack Jones and Sam Jones cementing a fourth straight league win.

Bow Street extended their lead at the top to three points with an impressive 4-1 home victory over Cefn Albion. Rhys Hughes, Richie Ricketts (pen), Steff Davies and Callum Page shared the goals before Tom Smith pulled one back for Albion from the penalty spot.

Penycae saw their six-match winning run ended but will not be too unhappy with a 2-2 draw at Llanuwchllyn where Zac Davies scored both goals after Meilir Williams and Will Owen had twice put the hosts in front.

Ben Wilson scored twice as Llangollen Town triumphed 2-1 at Brickfield Rangers, who lost for the first time in the league.

Llanidloes Town are in the relegation places and lost 5-3 at home against Dolgellau who scored through Osian Morris, Gerwyn Williams, Paul Lewis, Will Gruffydd and David Edwards. The Daffs will be disappointed having led 2-0 and 3-2 through Josh Jones (2) and Gareth Owen.

In the battle of the bottom two, Chirk AAA won 2-1 at Llansantffraid Village with Niall Freeman and Cameron Roberts on target.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Knighton Town made it nine wins from nine in the MMP Central Wales League (South) with a 3-1 victory at Machynlleth. The home side were previously unbeaten in the league having made a bright start despite losing probably their two most influential players in Dillon Browne and Callum Page in the summer. But Knighton are currently looking a class above in this division and maintained their 100 per cent record with goals from Callum Stead (2) and Taylor Wozencraft.

Stead opened the scoring on 10 minutes, cutting inside to fire into the top corner. Wozencraft soon added a second turning quickly to score after Matt Tilson picked him out. Machynlleth reduced the arrears with a header from Louis Roberts from a corner taken by Luke Vince-Holt who blazed a penalty over the bar before half-time. Knighton knew the next goal was crucial after the break and it went to The Radnor Robins with Stead heading his second from a Wozencraft corner after which they comfortably held out.

Warren McFadden grabbed a second half hat-trick as Rhayader Town remained third in the table following a comfortable 4-1 home success over lowly Llanidloes Town Reserves. Cian Price gave Rhayader a seventh minute lead and although Cameron Mills and Bradley Goodwin hit the woodwork and other chances went begging, that one goal was all that separated the teams at half-time. McFadden opened his account two minutes into the second half and the in-form midfielder completed a treble with his third goal coming from the penalty spot. Sam Crumpton missed a glorious chance to extend the lead before The Daffs gained a late consolation through Griffin Jolly with only their third goal in eight league games.

Builth Wells Reserves pulled off an excellent 3-2 victory at Penrhyncoch Reserves on Friday night, taking an early lead through George Lloyd who scored with a deflected cross. Taylor Watts equalised but Ollie Woods restored The Bulls’ advantage a minute before half-time latching on to a long free-kick from keeper, Jordan Jarvis. Topscorer, Dave Thomas added a third for Builth from Dafydd Powell’s through ball at the start of the second half but despite having Gruff Huws sent off, Penrhyn pulled one back through Emyr Jones. Builth remained in control however but were themselves reduced to ten when midfielder, Keegan McGinn, their man of the match, was sent off in stoppage time when Penrhyn coach, Carwyn Jenkins picked up two yellow cards as tempers frayed.

Penybont United had a bad day at the office crashing to a 9-0 home defeat at the hands of Bont for whom Garin Evans and Jordan Lee Perry both completed hat-tricks. Will Evans, Gethin Williams-Evans and Mat Thomas were the other marksmen for Bont who, after a slow start, made it four wins from their last five.

Caersws Development turned in their best performance of the season to beat Bow Street Reserves 2-1 at home with goals from Sam Barker and Jared Marks (pen) after player-manager, Tom Williams had given Bow Street the lead. Jake Jones also had a penalty saved by Street keeper, Ryan Burr while there was a flurry of cards after the final whistle with The Bluebirds’ Keane Marks seeing red.

Ffostrasol look like they could be one of Knighton Town’s challengers for honours and Bleddyn Jones (2) and Jack Brown earned them a 3-0 win at Aberystwyth University who were playing their first match of the term.

Tregaron are also up near the top and beat Penparcau 5-1 thanks to Liam Jones, Josh Taylor, Jac Hockenhull, Josh Davies and Shon Morgans. Gytis Pivnickas had given Penparcau the lead but they had goalkeeper, Daniel Pritchard and Liam Lewis sent off in the first half when Gethin Jones also saw red for Tregaronwho are now unbeaten in seven.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (NORTH)

Welshpool Town moved four points clear at the top of the MMP Central Wales League (North) with Ethan Kinsey (2) and Ricky Litchfield netting in a 3-1 win at Tywyn Bryncrug whose Jamie Pymm replied. Welshpool have played more games than their rivals with second placed Llanrhaeadr having four games in hand while Carno, whositfourth, are yet to drop a point.

Four Crosses won 7-0 at Dyffryn Banw with Will Howard helping himself to a four goal haul and Waterloo Rovers were 6-2 winners at Trewern United with Owain Richards scoring twice.

Bishops Castle and Barmouth drew 1-1with Mark Griffiths putting Castle ahead from the penalty spot. They had Aidan Oakley sent off just after the hour mark and Daniel Thomas grabbed an equaliser for Barmouth.

CENTRAL WALES CUPS

Llandrindod Wells bowed out of the Central Wales Cup after a 3-0 defeat at Guilsfield last Tuesday night. The Spa men knew it would be tough against Tier Two opponents but turned in a resilient display. Guilsfield scored all their goals in the first half through Aaron Lloyd, Callum Graybrook (pen), his first goal since a transfer from Caersws, and Joe Haycock but Llandrindod defended well after the break to ensure no further score.

Rhayader Town are through to the third round of the Emrys Morgan Cup following a 2-1 midweek home success over Brecon FC. Warren McFadden and captain, Ryan Addison netted in either half for The Red Kites in what was a scrappy affair before David Otton got a late reply with a debut goal for Brecon.

Hay St Marys are out of the competition as Felinfach left Forest Road with a 4-0 victory. Cameron Miles (2), Rhys Williams and Aled Davies struck for the Costcutter Ceredigion League side to sink The Saints who have appointed captain,Scott Warren as their new first team manager.

The most exciting tie in the second round saw Llanfyllin Town triumph in a 6-5 thriller at Caersws Development with Liam Pickstock, who was with Llansantffraid last season, bagging a second half hat-trick. John Lewis, Will Davies and Sam Norwood were the other Llanfyllin scorers with Jack Jones, Will Evans (2) and Callum Francis-Jones (2) keeping Caersws very much in contention.

There were plenty of goals elsewhere with in-form Llanrhaeadr unceremoniously dumping holders, Montgomery Town out of the competition with a 7-0 win. Jake Edwards bagged a hat-trick, Gruff Evans scored twice and Will Roberts-Morris and Sam Sefton completed the spree.

Carno beat Llanfechain 7-0 with Tyler McCarthy and Sam Williams each netting twice, while James Stovell was another two-goal man ,netting his brace in Abermule’s 5-1 win at Dolgellau Reserves.

OTHER LEAGUES

Talgarth Town slipped to their first defeat of the season, surprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by Cwmffrwdoer Sports in the Candour Talent Gwent Central League first division. The only goal of the game came on 28 minutes when Ethan Broom netted from the penalty spotto give Cwmffroedwr their first win of the campaign.

There was no joy either for Brecon FC or Hay St Marys Reserves in the RTM Brickwork Merthyr League. Brecon went down 4-1 at home against second placed Trelewis Welfare with Owain Powell-Jones their goalscorer while Hay were beaten 5-2 at Dowlais with late goals from Tristan Platt and Daniel Aarons giving the scoreline some respectability.

Newcastle came from behind to defeat St Harmon 2-1 in the JT Hughes Montgomery Amateur League. Ollie Leadbetter had St Harmon ahead after just to minutes but Tom Price and Morgan Oakley netted in the second half for Newcastle.

Felindre collected their first point in a 4-4 draw at home against Waterloo Rovers Reserves. Player-manager, George Morgan, who normally plays in goal, scored twice with Tom Griffiths and James Reynolds also on target in a real thriller.

Llandrindod Wells Reserves were beaten 2-1 at home by Llangewyn who led at the break through Dave Lewis-Jones and Adam Davies. The Spa men had Spencer Hyde sent off midway through the second half before Ryan Sims reduced the deficit.

Meanwhile Rhayader Town Reserves bowed out of the Dai Dynamo Cup in a narrow 4-3 defeat at Crymych. Trailing by two goals at half-time, Rhayader looked to have turned it around as Josh Rees, Ryan Rowlands and Dillon Leary (pen) put them ahead but two goals in the last 10 minutes from Ross McDonald swung the tie Crymych’s way.
