There were wins for Builth, Llandrindod and Radnor Valley at the weekend - meanwhile Talgarth Town hit six in a comprehensive win.

ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

What a difference a week makes in football. The previous week, Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells and Radnor Valley suffered defeats in the Ardal League North East but all three bounced back with wins last weekend.

Joey Price bagged a hat-trick as Radnor defeated Dolgellau 3-0 at The Bypass, Kieran McCarley snatched a stoppage time winner as Llandrindod won 2-1 at home against Penycae, and Connor Bird popped up with the all important goal as Builth triumphed 1-0 at Rhos Aelwyd.

Llandrindod know recent performances have perhaps not got the results they deserved but they got their reward on Saturday. Penycae arrived at The Broadway sitting second in the league table, unbeaten in their last seven, while Llandrindod were just above the relegation places but most teams are capable of taking points off each other in this league.

Penycae broke the deadlock through Harry Bowen six minutes before half-time but Llandrindod hit back in the second half. Liam Hall, who is really on top of his game, equalised midway through the half and after Thomas Edwards saw red for Penycae, McCarley popped up with his late winner.

Builth Wells travelled to Rhos Aelwyd with five player suspended but were boosted by the return of Kham Steventon and Joe Wozencraft who had missed the last seven and ten games respectively, while Ryan Powell and Danny Ives were back following their one-match bans.

The home side made the brighter start but Builth, with a strong wind at their backs, gradually grew into the game and began creating chances. Jamie Evans, who was a handful for the Aelwyd defence and probably Builth’s man of the match, created a couple of opening for himself after cutting inside and also had a good headed opportunity from a Lyndon Jones corner.

The Bulls got on top after the break and took the lead on 52 minutes with Evans having a tremendous header across goa lfrom another Jones corner which was tapped in by Connor Bird. Evans and Bird had further half chances and midfielder, Aeron Powell might have done better on another occasion. But The Bulls defended well at the other end with keeper, Steventon and Wozencraft looking like they had never been away and that one goal was enough to pocket all three points.

Kerry, who are now the division’s topscorers, were again among the goals as they hammered Chirk AAA 6-1 at Dolforgan Park. Luke Mumford scored twice with Khyam Wyton, Neil Mitchell, Elliot Jones and Mark Hughes also on target while Tom Freeman gained a consolation for Chirk.

Llansantffraid Village remain rooted to the foot of the table after a 6-0 defeat at Llangollen Town. Topscorer, Ben Wilson grabbed a hat-trick and Daniel Smith, Louie Middlehurst and an own goal completed the six hit.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Knighton Town maintained their six-point lead at the top of the MMP Central Wales League (South) with a narrow 2-1 win against visiting Penrhyncoch Reserves. It was not Knighton’s best performance of the season but goals in the first half from Declan Beddoes and Jack Hoyle proved enough, sandwiching Penrhyn’s reply from Harley Lawton.

The Radnor Robins have now won 10 from 10 in the league and with most in action in the League Cup this weekend, Knighton have the opportunity to further increase their lead at the top of the table.

Captain, Ryan Addison led from the front scoring twice as Rhayader Town eased to a 5-0 victory at Aberystwyth University. The students were something of an unknown quantity with it being only their second game of the term but Rhayader blew them away in the first half. The Red Kites were three up after 20 minutes through Addison, Cian Price and Warren McFadden. Addison grabbed his second just before half-time and Rhayader then had to wait until late on for Jacob Jones to complete their eighth league win from the last nine.

Builth Wells Reserves extended their recent unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw with Caersws Development on The Lant Field. Jared Marks gave Caersws a first half lead but George Lloyd replied with his third league goal of the term early in the second half.

Penybont went down 5-2 at Penparcau who all but sealed the points with all their goals coming in the first half. Mattie Davies opened the scoring but Owain Rowlands hit back for The Polecats after being played in by Jack Duggan. Player-manager, Davies however completed a hat-trick with his third coming from the penalty spot and Mark Gornall netted twice. Penparcau played some 50 minutes with 10 men after Ben Lewis was sent off, their ninth red card of the season, but Penybont could not capitalise and only managed a late consolation when Alfie Stonefield scored from Cian Bufton’s cross.

Presteigne St Andrews took the lead at home against Tregaron through Corey Blythin-Williams but Josh Taylor equalised just before half-time. And the Ceredigion side took control in the second half with Ryan Davies, Josh Davies and Wil Evans seeing them run out 4-1 winners as it became five defeats in a row for Presteigne.

Hay St Marys slipped to their biggest league defeat of the season beaten 7-0 at home by in-form Bontwho took the lead through a Daniel Price own goal inside the first minute. Garin Evans and Jordan Perry then each scored twice for Bont with Dion Davies and Gethin Williams-Evans their other marksmen.

Ffostrasol remain six points behind Knighton with a game in hand following a routine 7-0 victory over Llanidloes Town Reserves. Cian Edwards and Lewis Jones each netted twice with Alun Bowen, Tomos Green and Andrii Solyliak completing the tally.

Elsewhere Machynlleth came from behind to win 3-2 at Llanilar with goals from Calum Humphreys, Johan Auf Den Kamp and Alfie Westwood after Guto Roberts and Steffan Gillies had twice put the hosts ahead.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (NORTH)

Carno remain unbeaten in the MMP Central Wales League (North) as goals from Peter Rees and Gavin Cross secured a 2-0 home victory over Montgomery Town. Both sides ended the afternoon with 10 men with Cross and Montgomery’s Ryan Jehu both picking up two yellow cards.

Carnohad dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw at Welshpool Town last Wednesday night. Ethan Kinsey gave Welshpool a first half lead with his 13th league goal of the campaign but Geraint Jones levelled for Carno who handed a debut to former Llanidloes Town man, Josh Hartrick.

Welshpool remain top but have played more games than Carno, Llanrhaeadr and Forden United who maintained their challenge with an emphatic 5-0 win at Abermule taking them joint second in the table. Jamie Clewlow netted twice with Jake O’Donnell, Ryan Jenkins and Alistair Williams completing the nap hand.

Owain Richards bagged a hat-trick as Waterloo Rovers beat Dyffryn Banw 3-1 and Osian Ephraim scored twice for Barmouth who snatched a stoppage time winner through Ceri Roberts to triumph 4-3 at Trewern United.

Bishops Castle have been hit harder than most with Meifod’s withdrawal, having beaten them twice, and they lost 3-1 at home against Llanfyllin Town who took the spoils through Owain Lloyd-Jones and Will Davies.

Welshpool Town took time out to book their place in the 3rd Round of the Emrys Morgan Cup with a 3-1 passage at Bow Street Reserves. James Davies had given Bow Street an interval lead but goals from Nathan Turner, Max Mathews and Ethan Kinsey saw Welshpool through.

DRAGON SIGNS FAW AMATEUR TROPHY

Llanidloes Town put their Ardal North East League struggles to one side to book a place in the next round of the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy with Adam Nottingham and George Clarke scoring in a 2-1 home success over Bow FC.

Bow Street, who have named Dean Evans as their new first team coach, progressed with James Whitney grabbing an 88th minute winner in a 3-2 verdict at Mochdre Sports. Rhys Hughes had netted twice to put Bow Street two up but the hosts pegged them back.

Llanrhaeadr’s impressive form continued as they won 3-1 at FC Plas Madoc with goals from Jacob Edwards, Will Roberts-Morris and Gruff Evans but they are now the only remaining team from the MMP Central Wales League as there were defeats for Berriew, Tywyn Bryncrugand Four Crosses.

Berriew bowed out 4-0 at home against Brickfield Rangers who scored through Andrew Vale (2), Paige Williams and Steve Watkins while Tywyn lost 3-1 to Llanuwchllyn. Tom Allen was their goalscorer with Meilir Williams, Paul Jones and Will Owen on target for Llanuwchhllyn. Four Crosses were beaten 2-0 at Mynydd Isa.

CYMRU LEAGUES

Penrhyncoch produced one of the performances of the day in the JD Cymru North with Zac Davies hitting a 92nd minute winner in a 3-2 victory over Bangor 1876 at Cae Baker. Penrhyn had earlier twice led through Daniel Owen and Cameron Allen (pen) with Corrig McGonigle and Iolo Hughes replying for Bangor.

Caersws were celebrating a 5-3 win over Mid Wales rivals, Guilsfield with Craig Harris scoring twice. Sam Phillips, Ashley Harries and Max McLaughlin were the other Bluebirds’ marksmen with Jamie Hyne, Jake Cook and Iwan Matthews netting for Guilsfield.

It was a disappointing weekend for the two Mid Wales sides in the JD Cymru Premier with Newtown and Aberystwyth Town both losing. Goals from Jason Oswell and Zeli Ismael could not prevent Newtown going down 4-2 at home to Flint Town United while Aberystwyth remain rock bottom beaten 3-0 at Connahs Quay Nomads – an eighth straight league defeat for The Seasiders.

OTHER LEAGUES

Sam Crumpton completed a second half hat-trick as Rhayader Town Reserves eased to a 6-1 victory over Llanilar Reserves in the Aberystwyth & District League. Three goals in four minutes midway through the first half from Alan Samuel, Liam Addison and Cameron Mills put Rhayader in the driving seat. Evan Jones reduced the deficit but Crumpton took centre stage after the break to make it a good day all round for The Red Kites.

Rhayader’s local rivals, St Harmon were also celebrating as goals from Ollie Leadbetter (2), Troy Watson and Adam Watson secured a 4-1 success over Llanfechain in the Montgomery Amateur League Severn Trophies League Cup.

Llandrindod Wells Reserves fell to a 2-0 defeat at Forden United Reserves in the JT Hughes Montgomery Amateur League despite being the better side for large parts of the game, while Felindre bowed out of the Llansantffraid Village Cup, beaten 3-0 at home by Trefonen.

Talgarth Town returned to winning ways with a comfortable 6-0 home win over Pilcs Reserves in the Candour Talent Gwent Central league first division. Only a Harry Sharman goal separated the teams at half-time but Talgarth upped the tempo after the break. Tom Sharman-Jones, Kyle O’Shea (2) and Matty Lloyd saw them into a five-goal lead before Sharman finished what he had started with goal number six.

There was no joy again however for Brecon FC and Hay St Marys Reserves in the RTM Brickwork Merthyr League. Tomos Morgan (2) and Rhodri Powell-Jones scored for Brecon, who were leading 2-1 at half-time at Aberfan Rangers, but eventually lost 7-3 and Daniel Aarons got a consolation for Hay who were beaten 5-1 at Black Lion FC.
