Knighton Town came out on top in the Radnorshire derby when they defeated a spirited Penybont United 7-1 in the MMP with Norman Lloyd Central Wales League (South) at Bryn-y-Castell.
The Radnor Robins broke the deadlock in the opening minute when Mark Jones was played through to slide the ball past Casey Hanby in the Penybont United goal.
Adam Worton doubled the advantage six minutes later with a 25-yard free-kick that found the top corner of Hanby’s goal.
The Polecats had a good opportunity to reduce the deficit soon afterwards but Owain Rowlands lifted the ball over the crossbar from a low cross on the right side of the penalty area.
Knighton Town should have extended their advantage in the 14th minute when Hanby bravely denied Taylor Wozencraft but Mark Jones somehow placed the loose ball wide of an unguarded goal.
But the home supporters did not have to wait long for another goal when Wozencraft added his name to the scoresheet in the 22nd minute, after his free-kick from the edge of the penalty area nestled inside the near post.
Declan Beddoes was then played in on goal 10 minutes later to net a fourth for Knighton Town after coolly finishing past Hanby.
Mark Jones doubled his tally four minutes before the break after latching on to a through ball before lobbing the advancing Hanby from 25 yards.
Penybont United had the last opportunity of the opening 45 minutes when Jack Duggan fired wide of the target from the edge of the penalty area.
Knighton Town manager Harry Stokes, who celebrated his birthday the following day, would have been pleased by the performances of his team in the first 45 minutes after having recorded a 4-2 victory at Bont in their opening league fixtures. Meanwhile, it was another tough half of football for the visitors, despite showing some promising signs, following their 12-0 defeat at higher-graded Kerry in the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy.
Although it was the Polecats who reduced the deficit within two minutes of the restart when Duggan picked out Owain Rowlands to finish past Nick Cadwallader in the host’s goal from close-range.
That goal appeared to give the visitors some belief and they should have pulled another goal back but Duggan’s close-range header was superbly kept out by Cadwallader following an inviting cross delivered from a free-kick.
Mark Jones fired an effort over the Penybont United goal on the hour mark before the Radnor Robins regained their five-goal buffer when Wozencraft converted a minute penalty three minutes later.
It was left to Beddoes to complete the scoring, with seven minutes remaining on the clock, when he lifted the ball over Hanby after being set free on goal by Alfie Stokes.
Knighton Town could have added another goal two minutes later, when Stokes was played through on goal but placed his effort wide of the target, but the hosts had done enough long before that to secure all three points.
