Efforts to get the Mid Wales League (South) back up and running have failed with the Central Wales Football Association ruling that the league is not viable with only four confirmed applicants as of last week.
The Association has therefore given Talgarth Town and Brecon FC permission to play outside Central Wales for a further season.
The league had hoped to run with seven teams, Builth Wells Reserves, Llandrindod Wells Reserves, Rhayader Town Reserves, Hay St Marys Reserves, St Harmon, Talgarth Town and Brecon. The number would not have been ideal but at least it would have seen the return of football at grassroots level in this area.
Now it looks as if Builth and Llandrindod will have to join the MMP Central Wales League (South) while Rhayader and St Harmon are likely to continue in the Montgomery Amateur League.
The introduction of the National Reserve League and then the decision of the Central Wales FA to run two divisions at Tier Four has had a detrimental effect on the Mid Wales League (South).
League Treasurer, Phil Woosnam, who has been associated with the league for more than 40 years said: “It is a very sad day for many of us who have been connected with this league for hundreds of years in total.”
