LEE Harley turned back the years with a late winner as Rhayader Town maintained their four point lead at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a 2-1 victory at lowly Montgomery Town.
A depleted Rhayader might well have paid the price for missed chances until former Newbridge marksman, Harley struck in the last minute when a through ball was deflected into his path. Rhayader had wasted chance after chance but Richie Powell gave them a second half lead only to see Montgomery equalise almost immediately.
Knighton Town’s season is gathering momentum and The Radnor Robins made it four straight wins in League and Cup with a 3-1 win at Welshpool Town.
Mark Jones netted the only goal of the first half and was on target again after the break along with Sam Williams before Neil Price pulled one back for Welshpool from the penalty spot.
A depleted Hay St Marys suffered a 3-0 defeat at Bow Street where former Penrhyncoch pair, Dylan James and Dean Evans (2) scored the goals in the second half.
In Division Two, Builth Wells conceded a last minute goal in a 4-4 draw at home against Dyffryn Banw and that was enough to knock them off top spot.
Josh price, dave Thomas, Liam Ryland and Lee James were the Builth scorers with Banw hitting back through Tom Foulkes, who scored two penalties, Rhodri Davies and Jamie Huxley.
Presteigne continued their climb with a 5-2 win at Four Crosses with Ioan Hughes netting twice while Kieran Lusher, Tom Crichton and Tim Office were also on target.
Penybont looked on course for their first win of the season after goals from jake Bufton and Shane Pritchard had them 2-0 up at home against Newbridge but The Villagers responded with Alfie Stonefield and Dafydd Powell scoring in the last ten minutes.
