Talgarth Town recorded their opening victory of the Candour Talent Gwent Central League First Division campaign following a 4-0 over Race on Saturday afternoon at the King George V Playing Fields.
The Breconshire club had drawn their opening two matches of the season following promotion as Second Division champions.
The Royals were perhaps not at the races during the opening 45 minutes as they were frustrated by their Pontypool-based opponents and the woodwork.
It was Race who had the first opportunity of the afternoon when Talgarth Town goalkeeper Tom Bevan had to be alert to save an opportunistic 35-yard volley from Ben Lock in the sixth minute.
Veteran striker Brian Keddle went close five minutes later when his volley flew narrowly wide of the far post after being picked out in the penalty area from a cross on the right.
The visitors had penalty appeals turned down by referee Joe Lewis in the 12th minute when Bevan challenged the onrushing Lock for the ball.
The Royals went close when Guy Williams struck an upright after the Race defence could only partially clear a 29th minute corner before Keddle hit the crossbar five minutes later courtesy of a close-range header following a cross delivered from out on the right flank.
Gavin Perry's 37th minute free-kick from the edge of the penalty area was blocked by the visitor's defensive wall before Lock drove towards the Talgarth Town penalty area two minutes later but dragged his ensuing shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Summer signing Frazer Macanally hit the crossbar from close-range in the 43rd minute before Keddle was unable to keep his header on target from another free-kick played into the Race penalty area.
The home management team would have been disappointed their charges went into the break goalless after hitting the woodwork on three occasions, but well aware they possessed their firepower to find the back of the net.
The hosts finally broke the deadlock four minutes after the break when an unmarked Tom Francis was on hand at the far post to convert Harry Sharman's cross.
Keddle came close to extending the lead when he fired wide from a 51st minute corner before Dean Jones went close from the edge of the penalty area three minutes later.
The Royals had to wait until the 74th minute to finally double their advantage when veteran midfield maestro Perry swept home a pull back from former Brecon Corries team mate Steve Potter.
The lead was increased further in the 86th minute when a Race defender unfortunately diverted Harry Sharman's low cross into the net after he surged into the penalty area following another trademark run.
The visitors continued to push for a consolation goal with Kaine Jones firing over from the edge of the penalty area in the 91st minute.
The scoring was completed two minutes later when Perry's ball forward caused some confusion in the Race rearguard and substitute Potter pounced to complete the scoring by lifting the ball over goalkeeper Kai Evans to provide a magical ending for the Royals.
