Presteigne’s Williams was knocked out of the World Darts Championship this afternoon at Alexandra Palace by Darts legend, and five-time world champion, Raymond van Barneveld.
The dutchman won by four sets to one.
Van Barneveld took the first set, with Williams taking the second, tying the game up at one a piece.
Van Barneveld won the next three sets in a frustrating game for the Welshman who struggled to hit the doubles to win the legs he needed.
Williams leaves with his head held high after reaching the third round by beating Norman Madhoo in round one, and two time world champion and world number four, Peter Wright in straight sets in the second round.
Jim Williams would have faced teenager superstar Luke Littler in the last round had he beaten Raymond van Barneveld.
Talking to Sky Sports about Jim Williams, Raymond van Barneveld said: “I’m relieved, very relieved. Jim played amazing. He started with a 135 finish and I’m thinking I’m waiting there for 12 in my own leg on 64 and I managed to win that set. That was a crucial set.
“We were both missing crucial doubles on the last leg. I was lucky to win that set to be honest and then I was two nil up, then he came back and wow. He never ever stops apart from the last set and then I was sloppy and should have hit that double.
“After I came back from the break at three-one I felt so comfortable, but I was never hitting the same scores as I was in my first match and I was thinking where is this coming from, where are my 140s, where are my 180s and he (Jim Williams) was playing really good.
“I know he is a quality player, he beat Peter Wright, he’s beaten James Wade, I know what he can do. It was really hard work today.”
