THE first off road Ras Cam i’r Bannau took place on Sunday, October 8 at the Mountain Centre.
It was held as a fundraiser for the Brecon Urdd Appeal committee and organised by Becca Jones.
More than 80 adults took part followed by two races for children where more than 50 youngsters participated on a glorious sunny day.
The committee are grateful to Becca and her team of volunteers as well as the Mountain Centre and the graziers for having the event.
The bibs and hats for the race were kindly sponsored by Keddle Constuction and Llanfaes Dairy, with Blackbird GB giving a foil blanket to each runner.
Caleb Roberts, Freedom Leisure and Sharon’s Bodywork Clinic donated prizes. The winner of the men’s 10k race was Daniel Bodman from Aberdare. Other local winners were Paul Keddle in the men’s 5k and Sue Davies in the women’s 10k, with Emma Bald second. In the women’s 5k Aimee Fergusson came first followed by Catie Gilbert and Rhian Bowen-Davies.
At the end of the race the participants were given a bottle of water from Brecon Carreg and a medal donated jointly by Brynich Playbarn and Cylch Meithrin Aberhonddu.
The children’s winners were Gruff Peters in the 7-11 age group and his brother Steffan Peters in the under 7 age group.
This event sees the fundraising go well past the half way mark for the target of £20,000 reaching over £11,000.
Further events in the pipeline include a Noson Lawen by Côr y Ffynnon in Ysgol y Bannau on October 27 and a Gymanfa Ganu Carolau in the Plough Chapel on December 3. There will be a grand Charity Ball in February.
We look forward to welcoming the people of Brycheiniog to these events and thank all who have supported us so far.
