ARDAL LEAGUE SOUTH EAST

Brecon Corries endured a frustrating afternoon as they lost 1-0 at home against Newport Corries in the Ardal League South East. The Chisels saw their proud unbeaten home record disappear in the battle of The Corries.

Newport, who started the day in the relegation places, set up to frustrate Damien Daniels’ side and they did, even more so after taking the lead midway through the first half. Brecon failed to properly deal with a corner and from a second corner, Nathan Perkins headed the visitors in front.

Brecon controlled large parts of the game in the second half and Craig Evans headed straight at the ‘keeper while Joe Cooper’s shot was comfortably saved. But for only the second time this season in the league, Brecon failed to get on the scoresheet as the points went back to Newport.

Corries, who as a result of their defeat, slip to fifth in the table, are at home again on Saturday with bottom of the table, Treharris Athletic the visitors to The Rich Field.

ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

Builth Wells are top of the Ardal League North East following a 2-0 home success over Llanfair United. First half goals from Alex Hicks and Cormac O’Byrne and an important second half penalty save from Kham Steventon gave Builth the spoils as they saw their impressive home form continue.

Builth started well and went ahead on 31 minutes with Jamie Evans teeing up Alex Hicks who rifled home from the edge of the box. That was the first serious goal attempt at either end but Builth almost grabbed a second when Hicks headed wide from an Ollie Woods corner. But The Bulls soon doubled their lead with Cormac O’Byrne hitting a scorching volley from Adam Farmer’s cross field pass.

To Llanfair’s credit they tried to get back into the game in the second half but again chances were very few for either side. Visiting player-manager, Karl Seliaerts fired a couple of half volleys over from outside the box before Llanfair had the chance to pull one back. They were awarded a penalty following a push by Hicks but Builth ‘keeper, Kham Steventon made a crucial save from Josh Astley and that was game over.

Builth might be top but are aware all the other top six sides have games in hand. Builth host Llanuwchllyn this week-end and are without Lee James and Adam Farmer who both picked up their fifth yellow cards on Saturday but Chris Roff and Danny Ives return from suspension.

Llandrindod Wells, whose squad was stretched to the limit, chalked up a 4-2 victory at Llansantffraid Village – a result which means Llansantffraid will be relegated. Patrick Udoh gave Llansantffraid the lead from the penalty spot but Llandrindod hit back with a penalty of their own just before half-time with Stuart Williams making no mistake after Danny Hall was brought down. Llandrindod made a bright start to the second half and Williams turned goalscorer to provider with his free-kick headed in by Zak Baker. Thomas Williams fired Llansantffraid level but inspirational captain, Shaun Nicholls headed the Spa men back in front from a Ruben Edwards corner. Llandrindod defended well after that and secured the points with a late fourth goal from the impressive Rob Kear with Edwards again providing the assist.

Llandrindod make the short trip to Llanidloes Town on Saturday. The Daffs had continued their revival under new manager, Rhys Evans with 4-1 win at Llangollen Town. Recent signing, Tyler Mallett led the way with a hat-trick after Mason Jones had cancelled out Llangollen’s interval lead given them by Jack Welsh.

Chirk AAA are another who are refusing to go down without a fight and are unbeaten in four after a 4-1 home victory over Penycae 4-1 thanks to Caleb Davies, Tom Freeman (2) and Niall Freeman.

Llanuwchllyn, the only one of the top six apart from Builth Wells in league action, dropped vital points in a 1-1 draw at home against Cefn Albion. Meilir Williams, the league’s topscorer, had given Llanuwchllyn the lead in the first half but Alex Williams salvaged a point for Albion.

ARDAL NORTHERN LEAGUE CUP

Thomas Edwards cut short his holiday to fire Radnor Valley into the semi-finals of the Ardal Northern League Cup with a late winner as The Goats triumphed 2-1 at CPD Llannefydd.

Radnor edged the first half in North Wales and Joey Price hit the bar after latching on to an Elliot Morris through ball. Llannefydd, who are seventh in the Ardal League North West, forced a number of corners at the end of the half and from one of these Thomas Jones headed them in front.

Radnor grew back into the game in the second period and levelled midway through the half with Morris heading in from Jack Clarke’s corner. The hosts made a host of substitutions which appeared to hinder rather than help them and Radnor snatched a winner on 86 minutes. Joey Price played a short-free-kick to Edwards, who only arrived back at Gatwick on Friday night, and he drove into the box and curled a shot into the far corner. Otto Jones made one good late save but apart from that he had very little to do in the second half as The Goats progressed to the last four.

Radnor will have to travel to Porthmadog in the semi-final after the Ardal North West League leaders won 1-0 at Kerry with Shaun Cavanagh netting in the final minute. And it will be a huge ask for Radnor who will be without Thomas Edwards and brothers, Elliot and Lewis Morris who all received yellow cards on Saturday, their second in this season’s competition, and will now be suspended for the semi-final.

In the other semi-final tie, Brickfield Rangers are at home against Trearddur Bay, who knocked out Bow Street.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Penybont United notched only their third win of the season in the MMP Central Wales League (South) with a memorable 1-0 victory at Rhayader Town who ended the game with eight men on Friday night. Harry Bufton was the toast of The Polecats with the only goal on 18 minutes – his first of the season - when his strike from outside the box took a deflection to beat Rhayader player-manager, Eifion Price.

Rhayader saw Jacob Jones sent off in stoppage time for collecting a second yellow card and soon after it all kicked off with Cameron Mills and Penybont substitute, Reiss Kinch seeing red while Bradley Goodwin also picked up a second yellow.

Presteigne St Andrews also won for the third time in the league with an emphatic 6-0 success at bottom of the table Llanidloes Town Reserves. Midfielder, Sezar Cakmak emerged as their shooting star with a first half hat-trick before Niall Rhodes, Kai Blythin-Williams and Byron Jones completed the six hit after the break.

There was no joy however for Hay St Marys who slipped to a sixth consecutive league defeat, beaten 5-1 at Machynlleth. The Saints had led at half-time courtesy of topscorer, Ricky Lynes but Johan Auf Den Kamp levelled early in the second half before Alex Davies put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot. Davies missed a second penalty but it did not prove costly as Rhys Evans (2) and Alfie Westwood added further goals for Machynlleth.

Knighton Town edged ever closer to the title with a 5-1 win at home against Caersws Development. It took The Radnor Robins 43 minutes to break the deadlock through Callum Stead but Jared Marks had The Bluebirds back on terms before the break. But Knighton showed their dominance in the second half with Connor Bird (2), Stead and Sam Hoyle completing a routine win.

Ffostrasol are up to second in the table after triumphing 4-0 at Llanilar with Callum Shirt (2), Luke Evans and Bleddyn Jones netting in a seventh straight win for the West Wales side.

Tregaron remain in the hunt for a top two finish with Cledan Davies (2) and Josh Taylor securing a 3-0 verdict at Aberystwyth University.

The University had themselves won 4-2 at home against Llanidloes Town Reserves in midweek with goals from Abdullahi Salam, Alex Barker, James Barlow and Finley Wright. Alex Jones and Ryan George replied for The Daffs.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (NORTH)

Forden United remain top of the MMP Central Wales League (North) despite a 1-1 draw at Four Crosses where Jake O’Donnell salvaged a point after Rob Weir had given Crosses a half-time lead.

Montgomery Town caused the upset of the day with a 4-1 victory over second placed Llanrhaeadr. Jack Williams starred with a hat-trick and Tom Hallday was also on target with James Burgess gaining Llanrhaeadr’s consolation.

Carno will feel they are now right back in the title race after beating Abermule 2-0 at home thanks to Geraint Jones and Jamie Stephens.

Tom Allen (2) and Aled Jones scored the goals as Tywyn Bryncrug pipped Bishops Castle 3-2 while Trewern United hit back from two down to draw 2-2 at Berriew. Tomas Jones and Sion Wilde had put Berriew in the driving seat but Trewern replied through George Clifton (pen) and Daniel Morris.

Welshpool Town have now won just one of their last eight following a goalless draw with bottom of the table Dyffryn Banw who saw Joe Evans squander a first half penalty.

OTHER LEAGUES

Hay St Marys Reserves ended their campaign in the RTM Brickwork Merthyr League with a 2-1 home victory over Gurnos FC Seniors. It made it back to back league wins for The young Saints who must wish the season was just starting not ending. Goals either side of half-time from Iwan lewis and Dave Thomas set Hay on their way and they stood firm despite Gareth Rowe reducing the defecit. Gurnos had started well but found Dan Bowen in fine form in the Hay goal.

Brecon FC beat Baili Glas 7-3 with Aaron Mills helping himself to four of the goals while Owen Edwards, Rhodri Powell Jones and Ryan O’Shea were also on target.

Talgarth Town made a timely return to winning ways in the Candour Taent Gwent Central League with Grzes Chodnicki (2) and Kyle O’Shea their scorers in a 3-0 verdict at Crickhowell Reserves.

Goals from John Baguley (2) and Aaron Bates could not prevent Rhayader Town Reserves slipping to a high scoring 5-3 defeat at Corris United in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth& District League while in the JT Hughes Montgomery Amateur League, Felindre ran out 5-2 winners at Llandrindod wells Reserves. James Reynolds scored twice with Sam Bevan, Bill Reynolds and Ieuan Thomas the other marksman while Ryan Sims and Tom Evans replied for the Spa men.

Mark Pugh grabbed a consolation for Newcastle who lost 2-1 at Llangedwyn in the Llansantffraid Village Cup while St Harmon were beaten 5-4 on penalties at Abermule Reserves in the Severn Trophies Amateur League Cup. The tie ended 5-5 with Rhys Davies (2), Dan Powell, Tom Groves and Adam Young netting for The Swifts who had earlier led 3-0 and 4-1 but saw Oscar Glynn complete a second half hat-trick for Abermule, his third goal in stoppage time, to force the shoot out.

CYMRU LEAGUES

Caersws remain in relegation trouble in the JD Cymru (North) following a 2-1 defeat at home against Mid Wales rivals, Penrhyncoch. Dion Phillips had put Penrhyn ahead in the game played at Latham Park but former Builth Wells striker, Tommy Rowlands equalised five minutes before half-time. A superb strike from Owain Evans midway through the second half won it for The Roosters to leave Caersws, who parted company with manager, Luke Williams last week, just two points above the bottom three.

Guilsfield picked up an unexpected point on the road with Jamie Hyne giving them the lead in a 1-1 draw at Airbus UK whose Jordan Evans levelled. Airbus are now four points behind leaders, Colwyn Bay but do have a game in hand.

It was all change again at the top of the JD Cymru (South) with Llanelli Town taking over top spot after coming from behind to win 4-2 at Goytre while previous leaders, Trethomas Bluebirds suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat at Baglan Dragons.
