THE sun shone when Brecon Canoe Club hosted its second division four kayak and canoe slalom event.
In the K1 event competitors battle it out individually trying to negotiate the course as quickly as possible, without hitting the poles. In the C2 event teams of two took on the challenge in canoes, no easy feat. Competitors from afar as Cheltenham descended on Brecon Promenade to battle it out amongst their class and vie for promotion to division three.
The K1 Men’s title and promotion went to Peter Watson from Cheltenham Canoe Club by a clear 18 seconds, including time penalties, with second place going to Gavin Christmas from Abergavenny Canoe Club who also won himself promotion. Brecon Canoe Club held on for a fifth place with Zach Dunne.
The K1 Women’s category saw sisters Evie and Leah Hastings from Brecon Canoe Club battle it out for first and second place. In the end Evie Hastings grasped victory with less than a two second lead snatching first place and promotion with Leah also gaining promotion and second place.
The C2 was won by Jason and Lewis Fenn, a father and son duo from Aberfan Canoe Club followed closely by Jess Rayner and Evie Hastings from Brecon Canoe Club, both pairs also being promoted.
