Talgarth Ladies started their Division 2 league campaign on Sunday, November 3, with an impressive win over Sully Sports FC Ladies at King George V playing fields.

The game started slow for both teams with chances going both ways creating a tense opening 30 minutes to the game. Talgarth's back line remained solid throughout this spell which caused Sully to only really test Talgarth’s keeper Megan Ryan from long range.

On the 31st minute, Kirsty Rea gave Talgarth the lead when a great cross from Caitlin O'Shea was met by the going forward striker who volleyed it home(1-0). The half time break came with the one goal being the only difference in the teams.

In the second half, Talgarth Ladies came to life and started to show good link up plays through midfield causing Sully to sit a lot deeper in their own half. On the 49th minute a ball that was well worked around the edge of the box, was placed in front of Taran Fitzgerald who took one look at goal and pulled the trigger curving the ball from 30 yards into the top corner of the goal. (2-0)

Talgarth didn’t sit back on the restart and it wasn’t long until they were rewarded again for their determination. Kirsty Rea on the 52nd minute struck a ball from a well worked cross from Meg Roe which was driven low and hard beating the keeper who did manage to get fingertips to it, however not enough to prevent the strikers second goal of the game. (3-0)

Talgarth giving it their all continued to press and were rewarded for their efforts when Jade Maddy saw an opportunity to take a shot where she lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box. (4-0)

Sully did press well on the restart which saw them coming close to scoring, but the quick thinking Meg Ryan managed to pull off a forced reaction save preventing Sully taking away the clean sheet.

On the 60th minute Catrin Davies created her own goal when she picked the ball up in Talgarth’s half and ran the length of the pitch, leaving players of Sully behind and slotting it past the keeper. (5-0)

Talgarth remaining on the front foot were rewarded a corner but it was only cleared as far as the penalty spot. Jade Maddy found herself struggling to pull the shot off herself due to players surrounding her and laid the ball off onto midfielder Sophie Combstock who struck the ball well and found the back of the net. (6-0)

With the game coming to a close, Talgarth managed to grab one more goal when a cross into the box was met by Kirsty Rea who headed it at goal, taking a slight deflection, but remained on target beating the keeper to seal the result at 7-0.
