Bannau Brycheiniog – or the Brecon Beacons, as it's still widely known – has been recognised as one of the most beautiful places on Earth in a newly updated list by global travel media company Time Out.
Ranked at number six, the national park finds itself in prestigious company, sandwiched between Disko Island in Greenland (5) and Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the USA (7). The overall top spot went to Indonesia’s breathtaking Komodo National Park.
Three areas in the UK made the 44-strong worldwide list, with the New Forest ranked ninth and The Highlands in Scotland taking the 17th spot.
Time Out’s travel experts highlighted Bannau Brycheiniog’s vast, rolling landscapes, describing it as a “cathartic, curvaceous wonderland.” Spanning 520 square miles across Mid and South Wales, the park offers hikers and nature lovers a chance to explore its peaks, including the famous Pen y Fan, Corn Du, and Craig Gwaun Taf.
The guide also recommends a visit to The Hills restaurant near Brecon, where visitors can enjoy what Time Out calls “some of the best burgers” with views of the surrounding countryside.
Bannau Brycheiniog’s inclusion on the list puts it alongside some of the world’s most jaw-dropping locations, from China’s Rainbow Mountains to Bolivia’s salt flats.
