A travel agent has climbed the highest peak in South Wales to raise money for a charity supporting children and young people with Down’s syndrome.
Hays Travel’s Sian Clist climbed the 886-metre-high Pen y Fan alongside members of her family, including her 10-month-old grandson, Lennon, who has Down’s syndrome himself.
The trek raised £900 for Down’s syndrome charity, 21 Plus, which provides support to families within the Down’s syndrome community across South Wales, Herefordshire, and Gloucestershire.
The 62-year-old Hays Travel Ebbw Vale branch manager said: “It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but worth it for the funds raised. It was foggy and windy towards the top but once we were out of the fog the views were amazing.
“I recently visited a group organised by 21 Plus with my grandson and daughter-in-law. They have been a great support and have given my family lots of reassurance and guidance over these past 10 months since Lennon was born.”
21 Plus provide many services, including weekly speech, language and communication groups for preschoolers and primary aged children, a youth group for teenagers, and annual sports and residential camps. They offer training and workshops to parents and schools, as well as hold meetings and events throughout the year, bringing families together.
Nicky Williams of 21 Plus said: “21 Plus would like to say a huge thank you to all those that raised money for us with the climbs up Pen y Fan and the Sugar Loaf for World Down Syndrome Day 2025.
“21 Plus supports children and young people with Down syndrome across South Wales. Sian’s grandson, Lennon, joined our Talk Time early intervention group early this year, one of the many services we provide. 21 Plus rely entirely on fundraising, donations and grants to deliver everything we do.”
