The Bracken Singers began a new era with their new leader Vera Buckler, and piano accompanist Sue Turner, with their first performance of 11 engagements before Christmas.

The performance took place at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells on Saturday, November 23, and Sunday, November 24, as part of the hotel's annual Christmas Fayre.

The Singers’ programme, featuring a mix of carols and popular Christmas songs, was well received by the large crowd of locals, hotel residents, and visitors.

On Friday, November 29, the Singers entertained at Holy Trinity Church for the Bracken Trust’s annual Christmas Fair. Again, their Christmas programme was warmly received.

The final weekend of November was busy for the Singers. On Saturday, despite the rain, they performed at the Bandstand as part of Llandrindod’s Christmas Market. The unexpectedly high number of spectators seemed to appreciate the seasonal music despite the drizzle.

Sunday, December 1, brought the biggest event so far under Vera’s leadership. The Singers opened the “Carols by Candlelight” concert at the Metropole Hotel, which was a great success.

They were followed by pupils from Cefnllys School, Ysgol Calan, Voices in Unity, and the Rhayader & District Male Voice Choir, with harpist Mared Carrod and soloist Holly Richards of Llandegley also performing.

The concert was organised to raise money for The Bracken Trust by their new charity fundraiser, Emma Coates.

The Bracken Trust is an independent charity who rely entirely on grants and fundraising to deliver their services to people in Powys who have been affected by cancer, empowering them to live with, through and beyond the disease.
