BRECON bypass has now opened - but only one lane is open in each direction.
A landslide, caused by the heavy rain during Storm Dennis on Sunday, had forced the closure of the A40 bypass in both direction.
It is a vital link not only for traffic heading east and west, but for vehicles travelling between north and south Wales as the bypass carries traffic following the A470 past Brecon.
With the bypass closed on Monday morning traffic had been waiting for more than an hour at the Tarell roundabout, on Brecon’s western approach, and all traffic, including heavy goods vehicles, had to travel through the residential area of Llanfaes.
One eastbound lane was opened on Monday afternoon and yesterday a westbound lane was also opened but it is unclear when the two lanes in both directions will be reopened.
The Welsh Government’s North & Mid Wales trunk road agency’s Twitter account confirmed the road was partially open in both directions shortly after 4pm on Tuesday.
Brecon and Radnorshire AM Kirsty Williams tweeted: "Over 300 tonnes of debris removed and I’m pleased to say A40 westbound carriageway of Brecon bypass now open. (1 lane only)."
