Motorsport UK, the sport’s governing body, has officially recognised Brecon Motor Club as being more than 100 years old.

To mark this incredible milestone, the club will receive a prestigious award celebrating its longevity.

Brecon Motor Club, originally known as Brecon Motor and Motor Cycle Club, can boast running its first competitive event in 1921. While it cannot be definitively proven to be Wales’ oldest motor club, it remains one of the longest-standing.

The club's early achievements were chronicled in The Automobile, a leading motoring publication of the era. Notably, the magazine documented the timed sprint events held on Warren Road in Brecon in 1921 and 1922. These races were also featured more recently in the journal of the Vintage Sports Car Club.

“Wednesday was early closing day for shops in Brecon, the two recorded climbs of Warren Road were the Wednesdays of 8th August 1921 and 28th June 1922. Organisers were Brecon MCC so under ACU regs, thus largely motorcycles. 1921 certainly saw three and four wheeled competitors, fastest car Luther Davies in his Morgan, second D. Morgan's GN.”

The Brecon & Radnor Express also covered the event in its August 18, 1921, edition.

To celebrate this milestone, Brecon Motor Club is hosting a Motorsport Through the Ages show on Saturday, January 25, in the town’s Market Hall.

The event will feature vehicles from nearly every decade, from pre-war clubman cars to ex-works models and much more.

The public is invited to join past and present club members in recognising this key moment in the town’s history. The free-to-enter event will also include trade stands and refreshments, offering something for everyone to enjoy.

The celebratory event will take place from 10:30am to 4:30pm on Saturday, January 25 at Brecon’s Market Hall.
