This May, the Croydon Male Voice Choir is marking its 50th anniversary with a special series of concerts in Brecon, joined by three Welsh choirs.
The performances, set for May 16 and 17, promise to showcase a diverse repertoire that includes show tunes, folk songs, classical pieces, hymns, and more.
Founded in 1975, the Croydon Male Voice Choir has grown into a vibrant group with around 70 members. Under the leadership of a dynamic new music director, the choir is continuously expanding its repertoire and refining its techniques. The choir is known for its strong social life as well, with regular informal sings in local pubs and even a walking group that meets every few weeks for a 5-6 mile outing.
The weekend of performances kicks off on Friday, May 16, when the Croydon choir will join forces with Brecon Male Voice Choir for a concert at Plough Chapel in Brecon. The performance begins at 7pm. On Saturday, the choir will perform twice: first, with the Barry Male Voice Choir at Brecon Cathedral at 1pm, and later with Cor y Gyrlais Male Voice Choir at St Gynog’s Church in Ystradgynlais at 7pm.
The Croydon choir has enjoyed a wide-reaching social media presence, with their recent video of “Angels” by Robbie Williams racking up more than one million views on TikTok. This digital success highlights the choir's growing appeal, blending traditional performances with a modern touch.
With a history of performing around the UK - including tours to Norwich, Peterborough, and Gloucester - the choir’s Brecon performances are sure to be a highlight of their anniversary year.
