The Builth Bike Bash is switching venue to the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Showground.
Organisers of this year’s bash are hoping to capitalise on the Tour of Britain’s arrival next week by switching to the showground, the finish location for the stage four race.
The annual festival of cycling and sport will take place on Sunday, September 11 between 1-am-4pm. Organisers have teamed up with Powys County Council’s sports development team, Welsh Cycling, Disability Sport Wales and Freedom Leisure.
This year’s festival will be raising money for Ty Hafan children’s hospice, disability sport provision in Powys and the Builth Wells cycling pump track project.
The main focus of the festival is a sponsored ride around a one mile circuit in the showground, and organisers are aiming to cycle in total at least as far as the entire length of this year’s Tour of Britain.
Other activities will include a cycling obstacle course, all types of bikes to borrow including tricyles, adapted bikes and tandems; golf tuition, judo, football, cyclo-cross races, cricket, bouncy castles and face painting.
All these activities are free of charge to people participating in the sponsored ride, or £2 per child, £4 per adult and £10 for a family of four, for those that are not.
Lead organiser, Bonna Williams, said: “With the Tour of Britain finishing in Builth Wells we had to try and seize this fantastic opportunity to get more people cycling and taking part in sport – especially so soon after the Rio Olympics success. We are pleased to have teamed up with our new partners and are delighted to be raising funds for Ty Hafan children’s hospice. Hopefully the people of Builth Wells and Powys will turn out in force to make the event a huge success.”
