On Saturday, May 24, Christ College Brecon will be hosting their fourth Mountain Challenge event, a charity walking challenge that is open to all outdoor enthusiasts and has become a popular fixture within the local community and surrounding areas.

The event aims to raise awareness and funds for the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and the Christ College Brecon Foundation. Last year’s event raised an incredible £2,500 for Brecon Mountain Rescue and the vital work they do to keep us safe outdoors.

Open to all, this event provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the breath-taking landscape of Bannau Brycheiniog, whether your local to the area, or visiting from further afield. With three distinct routes – a flat 10-mile route suitable for young families, a 13-mile route taking in Pen y Fan, and a challenging 26-mile route covering Pen y Fan, Corn Ddu and Fan y Big – there’s something for everyone, regardless of age or skill level.

A local resident said: “I completed the 13-mile route last year with a group of friends, it was a well organised, fun event and great to have it right on our doorstep! We will be signing up this year to see if we can beat our time!”

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team will oversee checkpoints along each route, ensuring event safety, with additional support from Fabian4, a specialised mountain event company that will handle individual tracking and keep records of competitor timings.

Chris Kerr, Director of Outdoor Education at Christ College Brecon, said: “We are very excited to be hosting this fantastic event once again. It has become a staple in the Brecon community, and it’s wonderful to be raising money for such important causes.

“The work of Brecon Mountain Rescue is paramount in keeping us all safe in the mountains, and the CCB Foundation enables us to help all pupils develop their potential, irrespective of their background. The event is open to all and provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the Brecon Beacons.”

The CCB Mountain Challenge takes place on Saturday 24th May 2024. To find out more and to sign up, visit www.christcollegebrecon.com/mountain-challenge or scan the QR code above. Are you ready for the challenge?
