An area of approximately 300 metres by 500 metres of gorse and grassland has been destroyed by a grass fire in Cwmdu.

At 3.19pm on Thursday, March 20, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye and Brecon Fire Stations were called to the incident.

Crews responded to the grass fire, using one all-terrain vehicle, two leaf blowers, two knapsack sprayers and beaters to extinguish the fire.

A spokesperson from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “The area was destroyed by the fire.

“This incident was especially difficult to manage due to strong winds. Crews left the scene at 9:21am on Friday, March 21.”

The fire service has also issued an appeal to only call 999 if your life or property is in immediate danger.

A spokesperson said: “Our Control Room Operators are currently dealing with an extremely high number of calls relating to grass fires.

“Please only call 999 if your life or property is in immediate danger.

“Always call 999 in an emergency.

“For the most recent updates on ongoing incidents, check our social media channels to see if our crews are already responding to the fire.”
