David Chadwick is calling on local businesses and residents in Ystradgynlais and the surrounding villages to submit evidence to him as part of his campaign to secure a banking hub for the town.
The Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe MP is encouraging residents and businesses to outline their experiences and thoughts using the survey by clicking here.
Residents and businesses from the surrounding villages of Abercraf, Cwm-twrch, Cwmllynfell, Ystalyfera and Coelbren are also encouraged to respond.
Ystradgynlais has been left without a bank since 2023 after Lloyds Bank shut its local branch.
Ystradgynlais is the second largest town in Powys with 10,585 people in the town itself, and more in the surrounding villages.
Mr Chadwick has been campaigning for a banking hub to be opened in Ystradgynlais to restore access to in-person banking in the town.
Although an initial request to LINK to a banking hub has been turned down, the MP said he will “not give up the fight” and has said that local businesses and residents providing evidence on how a lack of physical banking is impacting them will help to strengthen his planned appeal of the initial decision by LINK.
Mr Chadwick said: “Ystradgynlais is one of the largest towns in Powys and serves as a major centre for many smaller communities in the surrounding area. If smaller towns in Powys like Welshpool have been able to secure banking hubs, there is no reason why we cannot achieve the same for Ystradgynlais.
“The regulator wants evidence from local businesses and residents on how the lack of physical banking infrastructure is impacting them.
“Please fill out this survey so we can gather as many voices as possible as we make the case to LINK to bring a banking hub to the community.”
Earlier this year, Lloyds Bank announced that their Brecon and Presteigne branches would also close in 2025.
