Silver Assist Homecare, winners of the Top 20 Homecare Award for 2024, are partnering with Dementia Matters in Powys and funding a monthly information hub at Llangors Village Hall to provide vital support for the local community and those living with dementia.
Dementia Matters in Powys is an independent charitable organisation dedicated to working with communities, third-sector groups, and statutory organisations to develop and share innovative practices that support people living with dementia and their carers. By joining forces, they aim to create a welcoming and supportive space where individuals and families affected by dementia can connect, share experiences, and access valuable resources.
Deborah, Chief Officer of Dementia Matters in Powys, shared her thoughts on the collaboration.
"Dementia Matters in Powys is delighted to be working with Silver Assist in Llangors; our aim is to bring dementia-related information, advice, and assistance to those living with cognitive issues, their carers, and families in more rural areas of the county,” she said.
“Working with community-based organisations, who are contributing to costs and the facilitation of the events, means we are better placed to be able to carry out this work. Dementia Matters in Powys is an independent, county-wide charity, and we need to raise funds to continue delivering the services that many tell us are vital to them.
“We hope that other organisations will work with us to bring much-needed services to all areas of Powys and also appeal to all Powys residents - if each Powys resident were to donate £1 to Dementia Matters in Powys, these vital services could function without fear of closure for one year. Can you help us and become a DMiP fundraiser by contributing £1?"
The dementia information hub will offer a relaxed and friendly environment for people to enjoy refreshments, social activities, and informative sessions from professionals and support organisations. Whether you’re living with dementia, caring for a loved one, or simply interested in learning more, this initiative will be a valuable community resource.
Samantha Evans, Managing Director of Silver Assist Homecare, emphasised the importance of this initiative.
"At Silver Assist Homecare, we are passionate about improving the lives of those we care for and supporting our wider community,” she said.
“We know how isolating dementia can be, not only for those diagnosed but also for their families and carers. That’s why we are so proud to be partnering with Dementia Matters in Powys to build on this vital initiative. By working together, we can ensure that people in our rural communities have access to the support, advice, and companionship they need."
In addition to funding the information hub, Silver Assist Homecare will be actively fundraising for Dementia Matters in Powys to help sustain and expand the charity’s essential work. To kick-start this effort, the Silver Assist team will be taking part in a sponsored walk in May, with further fundraising events to follow.
