Brecon Festival Ballet (BFB) is excited to be returning to Theatr Brycheiniog this December with 5 performances of Tchaikovsky’s famous Christmas ballet ‘The Nutcracker’.
As well as featuring professional ballet dancers and a live professional orchestra, this ballet has many roles for actors.
The party scene in Act 1 is set in a Victorian home, where guests attend a festive party in smart Victorian suits and dresses, get involved in all the action including witnessing a magic show and entertainment, watching life size dolls perform and seeing the story of the Nutcracker unfold.
The actors perform some very basic dance steps, based on popular parlour dances of the day - if you can walk in time to the music you’ll be fine!
Back in 2019, the first year of Brecon Festival Ballet’s Nutcracker, the local cast of actors featured men and women from all walks of life, many of whom had never set foot on a stage before. Some couldn’t believe it when they found themselves onstage alongside professional dancers and performing to some of the most beautiful and famous music ever written. It was a fantastic experience, many great new friendships were formed and a lot of fun was had in rehearsals!
If you would like to take part in 2022, BFB is holding auditions for the adult acting cast on Sunday, September 18 at 4.30pm, at Theatr Brycheiniog.
Why not come along and have a go?
Auditions for talented local children also take place on Sunday, September 11.
Rehearsals take place every Sunday afternoon throughout the autumn (3pm-4.30pm) and in the evenings of the week beginning December 12.
The dress rehearsal is at 2.30pm on Friday, December 16, followed by five performances, accompanied by Welsh Chamber Orchestra, on Friday evening and over the weekend of December 17-18.
Last time Brecon Festival Ballet put on the full production, all performances sold out, with a waiting list.
