A number of fake £20 notes have been spotted in circulation in a Breconshire town.
Police have warned residents to be vigilant as the notes, which say “Twenty Poond” instead of “Twenty Pounds” next to the image of Sottish economist Adam Smith, have been reported in Ystradgynlais.
Dyfed-Powys Police shared a picture of one of the notes yesterday, Wednesday, October 16, via the Ystradgynlais Police Twitter account.
The tweet said: “As shown, pound is spelt incorrectly. Shops will check and may report it to us so please check your money first.”
It came only two days after the Dyfed-Powys Police Economic Crime Team account tweeted about fake £50 notes being used in the Builth Wells area.
The force tweeted on Monday, October 14: “Several reports of fake £50 notes being used around the Builth Wells area in the last few days.”
Police have advised concerned residents to view the Bank of England’s guidance on checking pound notes by clicking here.
