Saturday, July 6 promises to be the biggest Llandovery Farmers Market to date from 10am till 2pm in Market Square.
An increasing range of stalls will satisfy shopping needs alongside entertainment from local artists Rhiannon O’Connor and The Gallstone Cowboys. It is also hoped the new MP for Carmarthen will attend and say a few words in support.
The number of stalls is growing and an estimated 13 stalls will provide beef and charcuterie, sheep’s cheese, local cakes, jams and marmalades, chutneys and preserves, liquors and spirits, honey, vegetables, fresh and dried flowers and wild plants. Most of the produce or ingredients come from around 25 miles of Llandovery.
Lyndsey Maiden from Llansadwrn is already a regular.
"I look forward to going to Llandovery Farmers Market,” she said.
“I like coming to town anyway and this is another attraction. It's getting better every time and I love to get to know and talk to the people who produce my food. A lot of my friends go too, so it’s a good chance to catch-up. This is definitely on repeat in my calendar."
The morning’s entertainment between 10am and 12pm comes from Rhiannon O’Connor - a folk song singer and Welsh language singer/songwriter from Ffarmers. She will bring a blend of traditional Welsh folk songs and her own original work, inspired by folk legends of the area and her experiences of farming in rural Wales as a mother of three small boys.
The afternoon will see The Gallstone Cowboys between 12pm – 2pm, a new four-piece band formed by 'old hands' from Llansadwrn. They play a selection of popular country songs from the 50s through to the 80s with a few original compositions thrown in. Their romping tunes promise to give ears a treat and heartstrings a tug.
Market Manager Raoul Bhambral says: “This market has everything – food and music and maybe even a little politics! Something for everybody, especially cakes and home-made chocolate for the kids. It is great to see so much support for local businesses – I see more people everywhere in town every time!”
Llandovery Farmers Market runs on the first Saturday of every month until October 2024. The next one will be on Saturday, August 3.
