It’s been a busy start to October for members of Pontfaen YFC.
Members first attended the County Annual General Meeting and Awards Presentation Evening held at Llangynidr Hall, Crickhowell. The club was announced as overall winners of the Mary Phillips Trophy for highest points in all senior sports for the year, as well as the John Davies Memorial Shield for the highest amount of points in all junior sports.
Members also had a fantastic day at the County Eisteddfod held at Brecon’s Guild Hall, winning the Homework Section and stage competitions.
Some of the results from the County Eisteddfod concerning Pontfaen YFC members are as follows:
Homework Section
1st – Story and Limerick – Sian Healey, Club Project to promote Brecknock YFC – Henry Davies, Sian Healey, Celyn Owens & Connie Hyde, Letter to a Welsh Senedd Member – Carys Rees, Photography – Oliver Davies, Sentence Kieran Sheppard, Composition – Catherine Morris.
2nd places in Limerick – Catherine Morris, Art – Nia Wilson, Photography – Sioned Davies, Story – Seren.
Stage Competitions
1st places in Instrumental Solo – Noah Morgan, Instrumental Ensemble – Henry, Noah, Riley and Connie. Sketch under 28 – Isaac, Darren, Josh, Kaiden, Brodie, Gethin and Oliver. Mime to Music – club team. Folk Dancing – Celyn, Maddie, Seren, Ruby, Alice and Ava. Playlet – Quinn, Oliver, Ryan and Callum. Humorous Recitation – Darcy.
In the Public Speaking 14 and under, Connie Hyde, Celyn Owens and Alice Hyde were placed 3rd.
Elsewhere, on a recent weekend the club held its Flower & Song Afternoon Tea at Merthyr Cynog Hall. It was a very enjoyable afternoon with flower demonstrations of Harvest, Christmas and Wedding themes created by Sian Davies, Cwtta Inspirations. Throughout the event, the audiences were entertained with beautiful songs by Mairwen Edwards, Sian Healey and Mollie Hughes. Martha and Connie also played the piano and flute.
During the afternoon, a presentation was made by junior member Henry Davies who had raised £741 from a cake sale he had organised with his cousins.
£370.50 was donated to Ann Payne, a volunteer from the Wales Air Ambulance, and £370.50 to Michelle Davies for The Brain Tumour Charity.
