THE Champagne corks were popping and the champagne flowing when Felindre WI members, with husbands and friends arrived at the village hall to celebrate their 70th Anniversary.

The hall had been decorated with bunting, flowers and a small exhibition of members photographs, craft work and memory albums which created much interest during the evening.

President Rhona Barnett welcomed everyone including two founder members, Elsie Brick and Lilly Price, who were invited to cut the celebration cake which had been made and superbly decorated by the secretary Jayne Harris.

Due to illness the first secretary Edith Pugh was unable to attend but the cut glass Rose Bowl which Edith had donated was on display.

Rhona paid tribute to member Monica Thomas and past founder member Gwen John who had recently passed away. Glasses were raised in a toast to Felindre WI and in response Elsie Brick, thanked them for their kind invitation and wished them every success for the future.

More guests arrived, and the evening continued with entertainment by Steve Hollinghurst; toes were soon taping to Songs from the Shows, some old some new.

Rebe Brick thanked Steve for making the evening very special. A delicious buffet supper was provided and served by members.
