Gwernyfed RFC Ladies' last home game of the season against a strong side from Ynysddu was also an opportunity to welcome some of the season's sponsors and receive Wales playing shirts from recently capped Wales u18s Shanelle Williams and Tilly Vucaj.
The game was held up due a nasty ankle injury to one of the Ynysddu players and special thanks go to those with medical backgrounds on the touchline for the calm, effective way they dealt with the incident, before the player was driven to A&E.
The final score on the day was Gwernyfed Ladies 10 - Ynysddu 24.
In the clubhouse after the game, under 18 players Shanelle Williams and Tilly Vucaj who both played for Wales in the recent Six Nations games and started their rugby with Gwernyfed RFC, presented their playing shirts to the Club.
Receiving the shirts on behalf of the club GRFC directors Ceri Morgan and Bronnie Jones, having witnessed both girls coming through the age groups at Gwernyfed and the early days of the Red Kites female hub spoke emotionally about how pleased and proud they are of the girls, their commitment and their achievements.
“We are sure Shanelle and Tilly will continue to succeed at the highest level of rugby and everyone at the club wishes them well,” said Ceri Morgan.
“It is also exciting to see the talent that exists currently at Red Kites, within the u14s age group in particular, and for them to see Shanelle and Tilly back at their home club is inspiring them to also go on to achieve great things,” she added.
The Red Kites hub at Gwernyfed has strong numbers in most of the age groups from under 8s through to u16s and recently a satellite to the hub has been established in Builth Wells. It is pleasing that a number of girls have come through the age groups and now play for the Gwernyfed Ladies XV who play at championship level.
