A RETIRED Breconshire headteacher has been recognised for his war time service in the RAF.

Len Davies was presented with the Bomber Command clasp by Air Vice-Marshal Pat O'Reilly CE, President of the Wales, Midland and South West Region of the RAF Association at Brecon Guild Hall.

Talgarth native Len is president of the Brecon branch of the RAF Association and flew 35 operations with 223 squadron as an air gunner during the Second World War after joining the air force in 1943.

After defeating Nazi Germany Len trained as a teacher and taught at Brecon's Mount Street School before becoming head of Talgarth County Primary School, where he remained until he retired in 1987.
