85-year-old Brecon resident, Iris James, has knitted more than 700 pieces for voluntary group Cosy Clothes for Tiny Miracles.
The group knits and crochets clothes for premature and sick babies in hospital.
Although having to deal with some health issues for the past few years, Iris has contributed more than 600 hat and coat sets, 100 hats and 12 teddy bears for the worthy organisation.
Iris is a trained dressmaker and has always been a keen seamstress, dressmaker and knitter.
She has lived in Brecon for 12 years, and previously lived in Clyro for more than 30 years where she brought up her family.
Her children are Michaela, Paul and Andrew. Her daughter lives in Coventry and her son Paul lives in Scotland. Andrew also lives near Iris in Brecon.
Iris’ son Paul told the Brecon & Radnor Express: “As a family we are truly proud of her achievement and kindness to others.”
She was described on Facebook by the Cosy Clothes for Tiny Miracles group as “an amazing lady from Brecon” when she submitted her latest batch of 88 knitted hat and coat sets as well as spare hats and bonding squares.
Although much of the time the wool is donated, Iris has, on many occasions, purchased wool herself in order to keep her production line moving.
The knitting has been an outlet for Iris, keeping her busy while contributing to a worthy cause. Her family is so proud of her as she has recently celebrated her 85th birthday on March 11, and they wish her well and many more years of helping newborn babies.
Iris, who lives on her own, is very independent for her age. Unfortunately, in Iris’s opinion Brecon is lacking places for like-minded elderly people to meet up for shared activities to combat loneliness.
