As the warm weather continues, it's important to stay safe and comfortable. Mid Powys GPs have offered some advice to deal with the summer heat.
Here are some tips to help you enjoy the sunshine responsibly:
-Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate you.
- Dress Appropriately: Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
- Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and reapply every two hours if you're outdoors.
- Stay Cool Indoors: Use fans, air conditioning, or cool showers to beat the heat. Keep your living space ventilated and shaded.
- Plan Outdoor Activities Wisely: Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day (10 AM - 4 PM). Opt for early morning or late evening for exercise or outdoor chores.
- Check on Vulnerable People: Make sure elderly relatives, neighbours, and those with health conditions are keeping cool and hydrated.
- Never Leave Anyone in a Parked Car: This includes pets. Temperatures inside a car can rise rapidly to dangerous levels.
