Park home residents will receive the same support for their household energy bills as other households after a campaign by Brecon and Radnorshire MP Fay Jones.
Earlier this year, former Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a £37 billion package of support to help householders through the sharp end of the energy price challenge – including a £400 rebate on domestic electricity bills. However, the Treasury originally excluded those not directly responsible for paying bills such as those living on park home sites. Ms Jones, and other rural MPs across the country, challenged the Treasury to devise a work-around for the plan, so that all consumers could be treated equally.
In response, Business Secretary Jacob Ress Mogg announced this week additional funding will be made available so that the £400 payments would now be extended to include residents of park home areas. He added that legislation will be brought forward to make sure this funding is passed directly to park home residents and tenants.
Part of the UK Government’s support is a targeted package for the most vulnerable households and individuals. Those in receipt of means-tested benefits will receive a one-off £650 payment. In addition, pensioner households will see a one-off £300 payment alongside the Winter Fuel Payment. The £150 payment for those receiving disability benefits was due to start being sent to those eligible from September 20.
Fay Jones said: “Originally, there was some confusion regarding who would receive the £400 energy bill rebate, particularly in reference to park home areas. I have lobbied Treasury Ministers in recent months to expand the rebate to park home residents, and I am delighted with this announcement and glad that the Government is committed to ensuring that park home households receive the same support for their energy bills as other households.
“Having secured this win for many of my constituents, I am now committed to securing greater support for those who rely on heating oil. The current plan to provide £100 to off-gas grid homes is nowhere near enough help. I have raised this with the Business Secretary and will continue to do so until this is rectified.”
