THE Builth Bike Bash charity, which aims to get more people cycling in their local area, has been selected as one of the Co-op’s good causes this year.
The support from the Co-op will allow the charity to purchase a tool station that will be situated in the grounds of the Builth Wells Pump Track that was recently built. It will be used by people riding around the pump track but also by touring cyclists.
Bonna Williams, from the Builth Bike Bash Charity said: “I know kids turn up to the pump track with flat tyres and seats too low, and they haven’t got tools or a pump so it will just add another side to the community resource.”
The pump track is also located on the side of the Sustrans Route 8, which comes down from north Wales, through Builth and onto Cardiff. It is used by touring cyclists, who will be able to take advantage of the tool station in Builth.
Bonna said: “There are apps where you can put your tool station on and help people if they’re stuck and they need something like a pump or an allen key, so we’ll look to do that as well.
“The aim of the Bike Bash is to encourage people to get out on their bikes and use their bikes and this is another service that can be added to help that aim.”
The charity applied for the fund, after having a previous grant from the Co-op, which involved the building of the pump track.
Bonna said: “My understanding is that the final decision as to which organisations get chosen to be one of Co-op’s good causes is made by the in-store staff, so it’s nice to have their support from the community.”
She went on to say: “We just love it, the whole pump track and what’s going to happen in the future. We’re hoping to have a fun day over the Easter holidays at some point and have a bit of coaching and refreshments.
“The track is used a lot, but it can always be used more and hopefully the tool station will help with that.”
