Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team received two callouts on Sunday, October 13 bringing their total number of callouts for the calendar year up to 112.

Incident number 111 happened just after 4pm on Sunday, when the team were called out to Pen y Fan after a walker had fallen on the path while making his way down from the summit and suffered injuries to his head and ribs.

Volunteers from Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team worked seamlessly with their colleagues from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and paramedics from Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust to treat the casualty’s injuries.

They then carried him on a stretcher off the mountain to Pont ar Daf car park and the awaiting Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust ambulance.

As the Central Beacons Team arrived back at base, they received a second callout of the afternoon by South Wales Police, requesting assistance with a lady who had slipped and injured her ankle while walking the footpaths around Pengarnddu Reservoir, Merthyr Tydfil.

The team soon arrived to meet the lady, who had a suspected fractured ankle, and her husband.

They treated the ankle with pain relief and splintage, and then carefully stretchered her to an awaiting ambulance. The lady’s ankle fracture was later confirmed.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said: “We send our best wishes to both casualties for a full and speedy recovery.”
