SIX members of Brecon’s WRU Plate-winning rugby team went back to their old school, Ysgol y Bannau, on Friday (May 10) to show the pupils the trophy.

The six – captain Ewan Williams, Ioan Edwards, Dafydd Edwards, Tudor Roderick, Jake Crockett and Will Prosser – were joined by Bethan Edwards, who assists club physio Rory Druffield and is also a former pupil at the school.

The rugby players took the plate into an assembly at the school and told the pupils about what it was like to play at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff where they won a nail-biting final against Swansea-side Bonymaen. The players also showed off the glass bowl they won for winning their division title.

Head teacher Richard Morris said the pupils asked the players questions in Welsh, adding: “For the children to see and hear our very own ex-Bannau ‘lions’ using the language was an important and inspirational part of the visit.”

Beforehand Ewan and Jake took the two trophies to Mount Street Junior School, also in Brecon, and chatted to the children about their team’s triumphs.
