As his funeral approaches this week, people across Wales will be reflecting on the life and contributions of former Senedd Llywydd (Presiding Officer) and Plaid Cymru Leader, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas.

People in Talgarth have their own special memories of Lord Elis- Thomas, who, as Chair of the Senedd Environment Committee, paid a visit to Felin Talgarth Mill to dedicate a bench in memory of his late friend, former Brecon & Radnorshire Liberal Democrat MP, Lord Livsey of Talgarth.

Lord Elis-Thomas had a tour of recently restored Talgarth Mill and had lunch on site, expressing delight at the Mill restoration, which had been a great source of pride to Lord Livsey.

Accompanied by then Senedd Member for Mid and West Wales and fellow Environment Committee Member, Cllr William Powell, he also visited WJ George Butchers. He had a chance to visit the establishment, which includes one of the few surviving micro abattoirs in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

Recalling the visit, Cllr William Powell said: “Dafydd L was a true champion of rural Wales, and, like me, also regarded Lord Livsey as a mentor. I am so glad that, as Environment Committee Chair, he made time to visit us in Talgarth.

“We will not see his like again.”
