A children's musical production of The Addams Family has raised nearly £4,000 to keep the doors open, and the lights on.
The Addams Family Young@Part, a youth adaption of the comedy musical, was performed by the juniors of The Albert Hall’s ‘Ah Players’. All of the cast were aged between 7 and 16, and 50% of the backstage, and production team were 21 or under.
The cast went through 10 weeks of rehearsals to learn their lines and the songs, resulting in 3 busy shows over the weekend of the 19th to the 21st of May, which were all deemed to be 'extremely successful'.
Director of the show, Ben, said: “Seeing these young people grow in confidence over the 10 weeks was incredible. 60% of them had never been on stage before, and to say they were fantastic is an understatement!”
He carried on, “As with any show, there’s a huge amount of work that takes place behind the scenes, and I’d like to thank everyone that has been involved, from start to finish.”
“Some said it couldn’t be done, others said it shouldn’t be done, but we did it, and these young people absolutely smashed it! We have a theme here at The Albert Hall, we have the ‘Ah Friends’, ‘Ah Accessible Cinema’, and ‘Ah Players’, but I think we have a new group on the horizon. ‘Ah Kids’ - so keep an eye out for future auditions.”
Once production was over, the kids were treated to an after-party by one of the main sponsors, Quackers Indoor Play Centre. The party took place at the Play Centre, much to the youngster’s delight.
