Theatr Brycheiniog will be running several free events this November and December, along with opening public spaces within the building as a safe and warm space.

To generous move from the Brecon venue is to show support to the local community and its audiences through the cost of living crisis.

With a cost of living and climate crisis, many of us are facing tough decisions. Some of us have moved to working from home following the pandemic and are facing a winter with increased energy bills, and others are facing impossible decisions about whether to heat or eat.

From Monday, November 21 to Thursday, December 22, Theatr Brycheiniog’s bar area will be an open warm space and working area. Visitors will be able to access the venue’s high-quality free Wi-Fi, work, or meet in the safe and functioning environment. By using the open space, you become a Theatr B! Open Space Member and you will be entitled to refillable filter coffee and tea (£2.20 for the original cup) and a 10 per cent discount in their café.

Theatr Brycheiniog will be screening the Wales and England World Cup group matches in its auditorium, these events are free, and no ticket is required.

• Monday, November 21 2022 – 7pm – USA vs. Wales

• Friday, November 25 022 – 7pm – England vs. USA

• Tuesday, November 29 2022 – 7pm – Wales vs. England

Please note that the bar will be open, serving drinks for evening matches and their café will be open during daytime matches.

Free midday movies will be shown on Wednesday, November 30 and Monday, December 5. Keep an eye on the theatre’s social media for updates on what films are being shown closer to the date!

On Saturday, November 26 Theatr B! will be hosting an affordable gig night. The venue is very excited to announce that Dan’s People will be performing, supported by The Quiet Marauder.

Dan’s People are a rock/pop four-piece band from Cardiff, once described as a crossover between The Mammas and Papas and The Clash. Catchy melodies, clever lyrics, soaring harmonies and driving bass solos, their music varies seamlessly from devastatingly beautiful to unashamedly fun. They are currently mixing their album The Visitors with Lucky Recording in San Francisco, CA for release in 2023.

Based in Cardiff also, Quiet Marauder take their cue from erratically-gifted cult legends such as The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Half Man Half Biscuit, Jeffery Lewis and The Burning Hell. Having released the world’s longest debut album, Men, in 2014, they have since produced an array of collaborative conceptual projects with themes with themes as diverse as orphans, house fires, toxic masculinity, rips in the time-space continuum, and Brexit. Blending dark comedy and carefully crafted lyrics with a DIY approach, they are a rotating, loose collective of musicians centred around the song writing of Simon M. Read.

The theatre is also collecting for Brecon Food Bank this winter. You can help by partaking in Brecon Foodbank’s Gift Angels 2022. The angels will be located on a garland on the Box Office’s desk in the theatre building’s foyer. To be involved, you will need to pick one or more of their Gift Angel tags, buy a gift using the information on the tag (no more than £10), fasten the tag securely to the gift and return the gift to a member of the team at the Box Office before 1pm on Monday, December 5.

The theatre will also be collecting for Brecon Foodbanks 2022 Christmas Shopping List. Please donate items by December 13 at the very latest, preferably earlier, in order to process and distribute them before Christmas. The venue kindly asks that no Christmas crackers are donated and to ensure ‘best before’ dates are after Christmas, and remember they cannot use outdated, fresh or refrigerated items, or alcohol.

The 2022 Christmas Shopping List includes Christmas savoury snacks, tinned ham, Christmas and Christmassy cakes, mince pies, Christmas biscuits/shortbreads, Christmas chocolates/sweets, Christmas puddings and hot chocolate.

David Wilson, Theatr B’s director said: “We our passionate about our role in the community across the region, and want to support as much as we can.

“Our season of ticketed shows and events is always very important, but as well as the paid for performances and free gallery we can also provide entertainment, activity and access to warm spaces through an additional programme of free events.

“If this proves popular we will continue this into the early months of next year. It’s important for us to work as a civic theatre, as we are your theatre, and we are there for you.”
