TWO hotels in the Welsh Marches have been put on the market after their owners went into administration.

The Radnorshire Arms in Presteigne and the Knighton Hotel in Knighton were both owned by Leisure & Developments Ltd.

Previous owners Paul and Rowena Williams, who are developing two new properties in Caernarfon, sold the properties earlier this year but both closed almost immediately afterwards.

A brief statement issued on behalf of the hotels said that Damian Webb and Diana Frangou of RSM Restructuring Advisory LLP acting as joint administrators have instructed Colliers International to sell the two properties.

The Colliers International brochure describes the 16th century Radnorshire Arms, with its Tudor frontage, as a building of “great character”.

The blurb says: “Situated on the edge of the unspoilt border town of Presteigne, the Grade II* listed property has 19 letting rooms, restaurant and meeting room and characterful interior.”

The Knighton Hotel is a Grade II-listed Victorian property with 16 letting bedrooms and a function room for up to 200 people. It is believed to date back to 1867.

The accompanying sales copy says the hotel is “an impressive building standing in the heart of the town and being its principal hotel”. It is thought that negative publicity following the sale of both hotels earlier this year may have contributed to their closure.

In 2017, the Radnorshire Arms was fined for having out of date AA and Welsh Tourist Board rating boards outside the premises.
