The 10th anniversary edition of a classic ultra marathon race between Brecon and Cardiff is set to take place next week.
On Sunday, February 4 the Brecon to Cardiff Ultra will see hundreds of runners depart from Theatr Brycheiniog for the challenge.
The RUN WALK CRAWL Brecon to Cardiff Ultra is a 70km, one-way, fully marked race that winds its way from Brecon following the Taff Trail. Runners will start in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park with its dramatic mountain landscapes, crashing waterfalls and crystal clear reservoirs. As they head further south they will encounter a different landscape with reminders of Wales’s industrial heritage.
The trail makes much use of an abandoned branch of the Taff Vale Railway and the Glamorganshire Canal.
The event begins at Brecon's Theatr Brycheiniog at 8am, with race crews planning to be at the theatre from around 5:30am.
The race will finish at Coleg y Cymoedd in Nantgarw, near Cardiff.
The course record is held by Will Kemp with a time of five hours, 38 minutes and eight seconds.
As part of the 10-year celebration of the event, the Brecon to Cardiff Xtreme will be run in conjunction with the race on the same day.
The mountain running version of the classic race is a 75km linear race over 11 major peaks between Brecon and Cardiff. This is a tough winter ultra marathon with approximately 2680m of ascent and is only suitable for those with excellent winter mountain running skills, experience and fitness.
The Xtreme event has proved a popular edition, with runners from across the world set to descend on Wales next week to take on the challenge.
This event will also begin at Theatr Brycheiniog and end at Coleg y Cymoedd, although the start time is a little earlier at 7am.
Both events are sold out for competitors but spectators are welcome to cheer off the runners as they embark from the theatre on the Sunday morning.
