The Powys Federation of Women’s Institutes has donated £463 to The Bracken Trust, following a successful fundraising concert held to mark St David’s Day.

The cheque was formally presented on Tuesday, April 15, during a morning rehearsal of the Bracken Trust Singers at Llanyre Church Hall. Cynthia Shepperd, WI Trustee Board Member and Chair of the Committee that organised the event, handed over the donation to Vera Buckler, leader of The Bracken Trust Singers.

The funds were raised at the St David’s Day concert earlier this year, which featured performances by the Singers and guest artists. The event brought together WI members and supporters from across Powys in support of The Bracken Trust, a cancer support centre based in Llandrindod Wells.

Also present at the presentation were WI Chair Ann Lloyd and Vice Chair Karen Bennett, along with several members of the Singers who performed at the March event.

The Bracken Trust Singers will next appear in a pair of concerts to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. On Wednesday, May 7, they will perform at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells at 8pm. The following morning, May 8 - exactly 80 years since the original Victory in Europe Day -they will entertain residents and staff at Crosfield House in Rhayader at 11am.

Both concerts will feature wartime classics and London singalongs from the 1940s.

The Bracken Trust is a cancer support charity based in Llandrindod Wells, offering compassionate help to anyone affected by cancer—patients, families, carers, and the bereaved. Founded in 1995 by Sister Grace Lawrence, Sister Beryl Lichtenstein, and Dr Hans Lichtenstein, the Trust began with a pop-up shop in Llandrindod Wells and has grown into a vital resource. Through practical advice, emotional therapies, and physical support services, the charity empowers people to live with, through, and beyond cancer.
